Funny, but both the first two posts are asking for the exact opposite thing, so I guess it's perfect the way things are.

Explain to the Euro players why your taking away the more populated single arena during their prime time in favor of two under populated arenas.
It's NOT all about you, you know.

A single arena that hits a certain population has been deemed "unhealthy" by HTC has hurts their bottom line (they are in this to make money ya know). So we have 2 arenas during US prime time (when the population is the highest). It's not going away, get use to it.

lol...sounds more like he doesn't care about the arena caps. i'm betting he gets caught with the arena reset...why people belly ache over that is just strange.

first of all how is 1 huge arena unhealthy if its constant map all the time, it shouldnt matter because both Euro and U.S. Will be using it just at different times. So it seems that it is not unhealthy based on what im getting from your comment on unhealthy prime times.

Once a certain population is reached the chat buffer ceases to be a useful communication tool. Worse still, you get enough donkeyholes that they entirely monopolize what communications are left. It becomes a toxic environment and new players who are trying it for two weeks don't subscribe, a significant number of them due to "the community".
-
Keep it the way it is, get to fly with squadies and by the time I get home I have 1 hour till the arena changes to orange and blue
-
I think the off hours should go away and just keep the maim arenas. Ive always been confused by the off hours.

What exactly is confusing in having a single arena?
And more: You think two LW arenas with large maps are really better for gameplay when there are considerable less than 100 players online for many hours? ;)

No.

-1 :huh best thing it happened to AH for years.

 Majority rule I recline my statement. I you all make valid ponies about 2 servers and few people.

I think more than this, it's the fact that the larger the population the harder it is to self-police. At a certain point, the anonymity is such that it allows people act like the donkeyholes you mention, and there's nothing the community can easily do about it.

I don't know how HTC has made this calculation - I see games out there with THOUSANDS of players in a single arena that seem to do quite well. If the real problem is having idiots on chat channels, there are plenty of fixes for that - they could limit the ability of newbies or non-subscribers to talk on certain channels, they could enable some players to have a squelch or kick capability as they do in FSO, etc.

Different types of games have different player dynamics and draw different types of players. It would seem those who like aerial combat are more volatile and quick to turn into donkeyholes. :D
Newbie can't communicate, gets frustrated and quits forever.
Some folks would spend the first 20 minutes squelching half the arena. Me, I just ignore them.
I can see it now: jackwagonX just shot me down. I'll kick him from the arena and show him... :t

That was going to be my question as well. I played WoW for more than six years, by far the largest population MMO in the US, and you never had anything like thousands of people in one area. Even in the capital cities with the auction houses or in the expansion focused neutral cities you never had more than a few hundred at a time. The worst aspect of WoW's chat were the cross-city channels and most people I knew tuned away from them because they were so bad.
MMORPGs, like WoW, generally handle controlling chat by limiting the general channel to the zone you are in, limiting common broadcast speech to a small radius around your character, having fairly robust ignore and reporting functionality.

you can have that with only a few people, just look at the bb and how most of the arguments are done by a handful of people. not saying we should have 1 arena with thousands of people.

2 arena's seemed good, orange and blue and map doesnt change til the wars won.

The single arena late at night works well, much better than two arenas with no one doing anything but strat raids.
The challenge is making the switch more seamless and less destructive to the active fights in in the two arenas.
-1 on haveing two arenas all day and all night, +1 on improving the switch.

matt I work until 10 pm pst. before I would get home and had the choice of either a locked arena or another with only 20-30 people doing nothing but milk runs. Now I get home take a shower, have dinner, read email and wait for 11 pm to log in with another 100 or so people and play for 3 or 4 hours. guess which system the people like me who fly late (or really rearly, depending on where you live) support.

i live on the west coast i've never really had a hard time getting into either
orange or blue at anytime and that's before we had off hours, sometimes
their would be a wait htc could have uped the cap to fix that.it might
be nice if they started off hours arena 2am pst and and opened main
arena at 12 pst just a thought.

If it had been that easy, he would have done it. Unfortunately just upping the cap would had a different result that one might expect. The problem with such quick proposals was (& still is) that people do not really think about all the possible impact & consequences...

I hope and wished for the same thing. The.
new arena set up was biggest.reason I quit.

yesterday's TT, with tagma, highlighted exactly why off hours needs a small map.
there were 150 people online and not one decent fight or dar bar across the ENTIRE map. It wasn't just a quiet point either. It was stagnant for hours the only time anything happened is when we pretended to take a Bish field. Even then I had to dangle the carrot right infront of them.
You can say what you want about the arena boot or the caps but for the love of god never make us play on a large map with less than 200 people in it.

:aok :aok I couldn't agree more, I've seen it too and the small maps when there are less people makes the game playable.
-
I am an Aussie, and I always used to complain that an enormous map and not many players meant I could not get a decent fight.
Now, in prime time for me and other Asian and European players. There is a TT map with 20 people duking it out, then when it hits "US Prime Time" its a huge map with 400 people playing, standing for TOTAL chaos.
I love it.
-
It really shouldn't matter what map is up, people should naturally gravitate towards a couple of hotspots for combat. It's too bad when 100 people are given so much map to play in that they take the opportunity to spread out to avoid fights. Why log into a combat game with other humans just to avoid combat with other humans...I could never understand this.
Maybe HT can coad something to change human nature.
-
no more off hours arena :aok need orange and blue only and TTTUESDAY map.
:bolt:

I think it is fine the way HTC currently has it setup. I fly mostly during the day, so on the Off Hours maps. In my opinion, things are better then they used to be with two maps all the time (except for TT).

Why? What will be the benefit for the game?

the maps are all the same, they rotate in a sequence...the single arena seems to be working for everyone who understands how things work...the rest are :headscratch:
