Title: A quick question…
Post by: G0ALY on May 09, 2011, 08:22:55 PM
The vehicle sights now have a single fixed power (magnification), unless the vehicle originally came with adjustable receptacles… So why do we still have an adjustable zoom feature in the aircraft?

In an aircraft, the zoom is actually not helping the shooter.   :salute

Not to mention new people...........   :salute

You’ve got me stumped here... What difference does it make if you are in a vehicle or an aircraft?

Because vehicle type players are not allowed to comment on aircraft. It's in HTC's byelaws under double standards.

With the fixed sights you can actually move your eyeball forward, right up to the damned thing if the cockpit layout allows.  With a scope, which is essentially what a tank gunner looks through, you cant get your eye much past the glass lens.  Not without suffering the dreaded OCULAR CONTUSION!!!!

If I understand correctly, in an aircraft, zoomed all the way in, you are seeing a 1 to 1 image. In this position, due to it being on a 2-D computer screen, you lack the peripheral view.

So, when you are not zoomed in, the view you see is compensating for being on a computer screen.

In a vehicle, what you see is what you would actually see looking through the particular sight. There is no peripheral vision loss to compensate for.

I also think it has something to do with the relative ranges involved.  A tiger can kill at well over 1000 yards, for the most part planes cannot.  The reason a Tiger could kill at those long ranges had as much to do with the optics as the velocity on the gun, the gun sight is as much part of the modelling as the armor, engine, or any other part of the tank.
