Title: I always knew when "The Military Channel" run and AH2 add.
Post by: Voodoo38 on May 11, 2011, 11:38:14 PM
:joystick:  I was reminiscing about when I first started playing back in "05" after seeing an add on the Military Channel one night.  I logged on and went down the very next day and bought an x52.  In the days and years since then I can remember nights when I would be playing and all of a sudden here come about 5 to 10 people with one million and one questions. omglmao.  The only thing I could ever figure out is a bunch of people saw the same add I did and all decided to give it a try.  Man that used to crack me up.   :lol   Good job HiTech this is by far the best game ever !  You should advertise on regular channels.

You know how many older folks play this game, they're gonna drop like flies eventually (Just a joke). Also, the complexity and learning curve inherent in the game will probably dissuade some younger players. Also, the commercial on the history channel is what brought me here when I was 14. It's actually the reason why I won't change the title music on the main menu (it's the background music from the commercial).

I have nothing against having AH commercials on the military or history channel, but can you imagine what's going to happen if HTC will start advertising AH on some cartoon channel?

I remember back in 1996 I was flying somewhere on a business trip and had just bought my first PC; a 150 Mhz PII with 16 Mb of RAM, 1 Gb of on-board video RAM, a 4 Gb HD and a 9600 baud modem.

Being the proud new owner of a near top of the line IBM computer I picked up a couple of PC magazines to pass the time on the flight.  There was an article by someone reviewing Air Warrior.  They were discussing how players from all over were talking on the text channels.  He was reading this while flying and others were identifying enemy aircraft and coordinating attack plans when the writer suddenly realized HE was the enemy fighter they were discussing.  After reading that I HAD to check it out and it turned out that as long as you were an AOL member (I was) then Air Warrior was free in their games channel.

That's how I got hooked and the rest is history.

Watching Wings of the Luftwaffe on the military channel and saw the ad. I had been looking into some online flight sims that week so it really kinda worked out. Fate it seems.

Good to know their advert dollars actually worked. Now can you put it back so I can feel a source of pride when I see it?

I used to work at Media Vision in the early 90's phone supporting thier sound cards. I was paid to paly AW to understand any sound card problems with that game so I could support calls. By the time I left Media Vision it was an addiction.

AOL....  Massive bill....  Hooked ever since.

I'd really like to see more advertisements though.  When I get a call and tell someone...  "Sorry, I'm on AH right now.  Can't talk."...  "WTF is that?" is the usual question that follows.

This game is too darn good to be so unknown.

Considering that late middle age and older folks are more interested in history, HTC might do well advertising in Modern Maturity and AARP publications.

They have free time, disposable income, and are more computer savvy than they used to be.

Let's bring in creakers instead of squeekers!!

Heh!

Are we sure this is a good idea?  I could easily foresee a lot of planes flying around just above stall speed, gear down, with the left turn blinker on.  Stick stirring would also be at an all time high when the palsy kicks in...  Prune juice under the seats in the fighters...  Old man smell in the cockpits...

No, I'm starting to think this isn't such a hot idea.

Wiley.

Yep, I too saw the ad on the History Channel about six years ago and got interested in AH. I am going to be 59 so I don't fall under the younger crowd category. Most the folks I see play AH don't. I did notice that what ever plane the History Channel show cased in Dog Fight I would see the next day in AH like the P-40. I never shot down so many planes in one tour before or since the month they spot lighted the P-40. Thanks history Channel.

How large was your bill on AOL? Were you playing Airwarrior?
