Title: aircraf<->gv colaboration?
Post by: Raphael on May 13, 2011, 11:50:13 AM
I dont know if it is already possible, if it is excuese me and ignore this wish  :o
my wish is that jeeps or some other gv has the ability to bring aircraft supplies such as fuel and ammo.
the idea here is when you land on a Vfield for instance, you can call a buddy to bring supplies to you so you can reup.
I'm sure people will find reason why this is a bad idea, let us discuss!

Can't think that this would be good for gameplay.   The problem that I see if a group of players upping aircraft, attacking a field then rather than flying back to base to rearm (or augering) now they could re-supply from a vehicle spawn right next to the target airfield.

hmmm what about on ports? imagine an attack to your port in waves, you could ressuply overthere and up to get some bombers

in the attack case im guessing the gv supplies wouldnt include ords.

if there was a supply category for fighters only without bombs...it could work as long as the function was only available at a base or port...not off base spawn points...and absolutely no repairs.

That is agreeable.   :aok

2 minute supply time. Only ammunition can be carried, no fuel.
If you think about it, how much fuel is required to get a P-51
to 1/8th full? Could a jeep carry that much in the front seat?

Not to mention a bomber-type aircraft...

i was thinking more along the lines of a half track or...assuming one would be added at some point, 2 1/2 ton truck...2 minutes reload time would probably work.

Why would a v-base, or an armored brigade, have a supply of high octane fuel?

wrongway

I think it should be the same amount of time it takes to fly to an airfield and re-fuel there and then fly back.

Ports and vehicle depots weren't set-up to receive a plane re-arm it and re-fuel it and send it on its way. Airfields on the other hand were set-up for it.

well, to be fair fugitive, not all airbases had nice concrete runways and fancy hangars either...nor did all ports have reinforced concrete jettys, docks, ammo bunkers, or vehicle hangars full of tanks and other assorted vehicles. we're talking the main arenas here where the concept of realism is stretched to say the least.

considering how supplies were handled and transported it wouldn't be too far fetched for a vehicle base or port to have ammunition and fuel that could be used by aircraft...

Or the correct type of cannon and, in some cases, machine gun ammo?

Giant convoy-like trucks?

I was stationed aboard the USS Eisenhower for almost 3 years out of Nofolk VA. While at port we COULD take on JP5 fuel for the jets, but there was no place to land them to re-fuel them. There was an airfield a few miles away SEPERATE from our base that the aircrews and jets would be at while we were in port. At neither place did we have tanks and depots for them. Nor were there very many Marine's around  :D

Bases and port are are separate and are not used and "multi-purpose" bases in the many I have visited.
