I'm going to cut the crap for this one and just get straight to the point.
I know that a lot of people that fly bombers like to go AFK while they climb, I occasionally do the same thing depending on what time it is (aka; if it's lunch time or not). Other wise for the rest of the flight I usually sit in my chair and keep an eye on the progress I'm making so I can make any changes that need to happen in flight.
The problem is that I do occasionally get bored while climbing, especially if everyone on 200 or country is being dead to the world. I would really enjoy it if you would add some way of controlling the air-fuel mixture based on altitude. Since not everyone is going to take kindly to this discussion (almost all fighter pilots), also allow a way to disable it in the clip board menu. Besides It would add a nice level of realism to the game (a level that doesn't currently exist but does in some other sims).

I think Hitech has already said he is not going to add button pushes just for the sake of pushing some buttons.
If your bored, read a book.

Perhaps choose a plane or sortie type that isn't boring? ;)

I suggest intentionally messing up your trim settings, then experimenting with different sizes of rocks to place on your rudder pedals.

you sure books are for dumb people? Im sure HiTech/Skuzzy/Pyro/Superfly/Sudz/Waffle has read a few books on learning how to coad/make stuff and some other things. But then again, what do i know.

You might want to rethink that.

I read books does that mean I'm dumb? :headscratch

I know what I said and I'm not changing my statement. Real men learn the way I did, trial and error. Right now my IQ is 125 and I hardly ever pick up a book (google on the other hand gets a work out). :P
It sounds to me like HiTech doesn't want to add this to the game because of development costs. If that is the case I will gladly develop it myself and submit the code when I'm done. (all I want in return is your first born sheep)

i think someone lied to you...i've seen some of the stuff you have said around here including your next sentence...85 would be my guess.

so in your "intellectual estimation" not putting more buttons to push and making things more complicated than they have to be for the average new gamer is not wanting to develop the game...there are some players who wouldn't mind a little added complexity but then again, that is a small minority of players who think it would be fun until they found themselves a victim of such complexity. again, 85 is my guess and at that rate, you're not coding anything more complex than the microwave oven...you're failing to look at things beyond the end of your nose. the main arena settings are meant for anyone with an adequate computer to jump in and participate, learning the more complex points as they become more familiar with every aspect of the game. and everything that gets added or changed, is part of the process of development...whether it's something you like or notice, or not.
-
Gyrene, I hope you don't mind if I sum up your argument into one sentence-
HiTech wants to create a game that is easy to learn, but difficult to master; coding buttons for their own sake only impedes that aim.

You know something gyrene, you are really in my bellybutton today and I am not in the mood.
That statement that earned me the IQ of "85" was a personal observation of how most companys work. It's nothing new to socioty for a business to not include something because it would be cheaper not to while having little effect on the end out come.
Just because I don't see a scenario the same way as some of you "veteran" gamers doesn't mean I'm stupid. It means I am imagining change and improvement on the existing system that would ultimatly make it better as opposed to people like you who just want to sit in you dark little corner and keep playing the same thing that you have become used to and possibly even good at, because even something as simple as adding a new type of interface will threaten the way you have done things for years.
Had you bothered to even read my OP you would have noticed that I said "Include a function in the clip board menu do disable it[/u]". Next time you will consider reading the post thuroghly before trying to burn someone at the stake.
Finnaly, I don't need to have my programing skills called into question by someone who has likely never even looked at a source code in his life. Even though I have only been programing for about a year, at least I am willing to make an effor to create something that I have a personal prefference for. Change starts with initiative and I am taking the initiative to improve on an existing idea while you sit and sulk because things are going to be a little bit different.
Go have a cookie and cheer up. I'm going to go take a well deserved nap.

i've been worse. :D don't take it personal...it's just a jarhead thing...and today happens to be your day.

i actually gave you more credit and figured you had the capability of seeing a bigger picture, before your last week of wishlist posts...hey, you should go talk to oracle, sun, hp, redhat, ibm and several others...they're wasting time and money printing books and manuals, maybe you could show them how to save on printing costs. could have used pdf files when i was studying for the hp-ux sys admin certification and redhat cluster management course, but nooo, had to give us books. things have come a long way in just the past 10 years though, maybe in another 10 years print media will be a thing of the past, even in the technology industry.

i'm hardly a veteran gamer here...other games yes, not here...you should have been around here last year...someone else posed the same idea...and i was onboard with it then as i am now...but, after flopping around in the romper room main arenas with the long time vets and new people, i've had to look at things on a broader plane than what i personally think would be great for the game.

man, i feel for ya...i determined years ago after months of trying to learn cobol and c, programming is just not something i want to lose sleep over...vb almost got me sucked back into it but i much prefer my simple shell scripts.
i had ice cream and brandy... :D

Gyrene, I'm sorry I wen't ballistic on you yesterday. Insulting my inteligence is something that I take very personaly and have actually been kicked from other forums for it. It's a miricle that HTC didn't kick me from this one.
I am not a very skilled programer like you implied (but using GW-Basic means I am very hard core). I am much better at the hardware aspect of electronics rather than the software. Luckily for me I have plenty of frends who are much better programers and they are actually the ones who have been teaching me how to program code.
If everyone knew what my end game was they would support this idea 100%. I am not going to reveal what my end game is just yet but I will say the people will want one for them selves and I will happily provide.
I only started this thread because of a custom joystick with the parts on order (called MJoy16) and it has 8 analog inputs. That leaves the elevators, ailerons, rudder, and 4 throttles with one left over. I plan to connect the last analog input to the RPM control in the game (even though I'm not sure what the RPM is modifying). And before anyone jumps to conclusions, no this is not my end game.
As for everyone else, I said "books are for dumb people, that's why I play AH" as a joke and you all seem to missing the punch line. Not that people that read books are dumb, but that smart people play AH.
so far ive finished a whole book on a long climb out lol,you could alt tab out and get on youtube or browse the forums like im doing right now.
I would love to, but my computer does not have the memory to run AH and another program at the same time. It barely has enough memory to run AH with the current video settings. I have tried before and the computer froze so I just don't do it any more. I am getting some more RAM, and a new graphics card soon we'll see if that helps. Besides I am a boring person and most books bore me. The only books that I find stimulating (lol, stimlating :lol) are text books, and a good Kurt Vonnegut book.

dood...i didn't see anything ballistic from you...reading through again just now i still don't, but that's just me. it was the reading comment that got my flame thrower stoked up... :lol wanton ignorance is just one of my pet peeves...and there just seems to be way too much of it in our society. by the time i realized your comment was a mere jest, i was on a roll. :D
if you're doing any programming at all, you're miles ahead of a lot of people...it all looks like hieroglyphics to anyone who has never understood it. i'm just a noob shell scripter, although i was informed friday i am going to be required to learn python programming. :cry
