Hey Guys,
I have a very simple request concerning the BBS. I want it to be that if you click the back button to exit a thread, then the <new> icon from that thread will dissapear. It has tricked me many times into going back and searching for a new post.
Something tells me that this wish won't be possible because:
A.) HTC does not have access to the forum source code
B.) Some sort of problem with loading all of those flags would cause memory issues

just scroll to the very top and click the tab for what section you were in :aok
-
I just click "refresh" and it's gone...

Yeah, but it's a pain in the butt with longer threads.

That's not how it works. When you hit the back button, the page isn't reloaded, you just go back to the version of the page that your browser has stored.
There's probably a browser setting you could change.

or try the 'home" button on your keyboard. it takes you to the top of the page.

"automatically check for new versions of the page each time you visit" or something like that...
alternatively to clicking the refresh button "refresh" you could simply hit F5.
This was about the <new> icon hanging around... right?
:noid

Correct, I'd like it to be that when I hit the back button, it refreshes the forum list.

Yeah, so you need to change a setting in your browser. What you're saying is like asking HTC to change where the buttons on your stick are.

Ok, I'm using IE9, would someone please help me then?

First, don't use Internet Exploder. Try something else, like Opera.
-
penguin, by reloading every page you will slow down your browser.

I was referring to Pigslilsplaz's snide remark about my browser, and I addressed that remark to him. I apologize if I made myself out to be stubborn; that was entirely my fault. I also understand that HTC doesn't need to change a thing. So is what you're saying true? Do I need to use a different browser or not?

What's wrong with hitting the little "go" button at the bottom of the thread page, where it shows which forum you want to jump to? It defaults to jumping to the forum you're in, so it's like using a "back" button that refreshes your page automatically.
-
I want to do it in one click, not two, because honestly, I'm just that lazy. :devil

The only way to make that work is for us to send the "no-cache" pragma with the page, which would prevent any of the bulletin board pages from being cached by your browser, ever. We will not do that as it would place a whole new level of performance burdens on the server and the client.
If you want the page to automatically refresh, you would need to disable caching, in your browser. As it stands, your browser is not asking for a new page when you go back. It simply redraws it from the cache and the server is not involved at all.
-
Ok, now I get it. So how do I disable caching in my browser?

In Windows (depending on what specific OS), you would use the "Internet Options" in the Control Panel. There is a tab in that utility which dictates how a page should be seen. Now, I do not know if that exists for Windows 7 or Vista, but it used to be there.
-
it's part of internet explorer under tools...
-
Couldn't you have it bookmarked, and click on the book mark every time to send it back to the board index. It refreshes it automatically .

hey penguin...look at the bottom right corner of your browser window...should be a "jump to" box down there with a "go" button to the right of it...click the word go, watch what happens.
eliminates the need for using the "back" button on your browser.

Yeah, I said that in reply #20. Seems they don't care to use the simple approach. :P
