I was brought up listening to the following bands by my dad and I still love dropping the tunes into the playlist while I am driving these days. It reminds me of long road trips with an old 8 track player in the car and the windows rolled down because we had no A/C.
13th Floor Elevators http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-psychedelic-sounds-of-the-13th-floor-elevators-r28582
Amboy Dukes
Bubble Puppy
White Noise
Silver Apples
Red Krayola
Pearls before Swine

I've noticed that about 50% of the late 60s flashbacks I see in shows or movies seem to feature "journey into the center of the mind" playing as the flashback begins.

My oldest brother went through two 8 tracks of Aladdin Sane. I remember those days well.

I love the 60's music, not necessarily the acid rock though.
The Doors
Moody Blues
Simon and Garfunkle
Peter Paul and Mary
Beachboys
and tons of the one hit wonders from the time.
Not to mention some of the gag songs like Ahab the Ayrab and They're coming to take me away ha ha.
-
Yeah my dad had all those as well. My house growing up was about as mixed up with music as you could get. I was listening to all that old music that he listened to; plus was mixing in some 70's heavy metal with some 80's punk rock, Hank Williams SENIOR and Junior, various country music artists and some of the EARLY rappers like Easy E, NWA and that group.

Geez Oz both of those earlier ones you linked were ones that my dad used to play when I was a kid. Music like this just doesn't exist much anymore. You gotta search for it and it isn't mainstream that for sure.

this came alittle later but Ink mentioning Ten years after made me go looking to see if I had an vinyl of Ten years after!

I grew up listening to The Beatles, John Mellencamp, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Every once in a while my dad would be blasting Chicago and Niel Diamond at 3 am on his old 8 track player and huge early CD deck. As for me I love 60s music as well but its more Beatles, Doors, Rolling Stones, and early Zeppelin. :rock
