Title: Port field guns
Post by: badhorse on May 21, 2011, 07:34:10 PM
While loading AHII puts on the screen a little tip to keep you from getting bored. One of these says something to the effect that Ports have 5" guns to help defend against ships and such.
It would be nice if at least one of these guns was positioned to actually be able to fire on LVTs while they are still in the water.

Those guns are they for the large ships, the ack is supposed to take care of LVTs.

Positioning of the guns depends on who ever makes the map, you can submit this request on the Terrain Editor forum or try to do it yourself.

I'm not talking about the Shore Battery. I'm talking about the two field guns.

You mean the 17 pounder guns?

Those aren't 5".
This particular AH tip has a typo. It's meant to say 8" guns and indeed refers to the shore batteries.

Yes, I meant the 17 lbers.  I didn't know they were refering to the Shore Battery in the tip.
Too bad.

This, while being a good idea, would spell certain doom for ALL LVTs making for shore...it would first have to have a pretty high damage rating, somethin like 4k+ (I know the 5s on the CV groups seem to go down instantaneously when hit by bombs, mind u it is usually a Salvo of 10 from 2-3 sets of buffs dropping on it). By the time those LVTs would have enough rounds in it to destroy (if there were no AC around) those LVTs would have given up after dyin 5-10 times lol. But still think would be a good idea to have maybe 1-1 protecting SB's...anyone?

Scotty please read the above. I was refering to the 17 lber field guns, not the shore battery. They are as easy to destroy as any other ground ack.

Lol, i see. Would the idea of having a couple 5in Guns, say 1 for each SB to protect Port from Heavy Air and Land attack if CV is nowhere to be found? Say, one that actually can traverse and hit GVs if need be as well as put 5in shells into the air like on the CV Groups?
