Title: Question to GVers - Alternative controllers
Post by: Blagard on May 22, 2011, 09:07:43 PM
The wish list has recently been full of ideas and changes to develop GV'ing control.

I wonder if those dedicated to, or at least with a preference for GV'ing use any alternative controllers.

AH supports a range of multiple devices and at one time when I was doing some stuff in buffs, I found my fighter setup was not ideal. So for a period I tried adding another controller in, with keys programmed just for bombing. I found it worked quite well.

GV's being yet another "type" may also benefit from this. - In my case I added in a Nostromo N50 speedpad. So in addition to being able to assign all your popular keys to it without remapping AH, it also gives an extra analog control on a thumb wheel and a D pad. The current version is a N52 and may be better again. I am sure there are loads of other programable pads and I just wonder how many people are aware these things are about and may make your life more comfortable?

Coupled with the mouse or a joystick these pads are an economical alternative to dedicated "flight" throttles.

I have a full CH setup. I was GVing yesterday and had a running fight and got the kill, which with the old style setup I NEVER would have got. The driving controls are setup on my throttle, the gunning on the stick. It was fun and much easier to gun while running. I think things are much better this way.

While using just a keyboard you are able to GV, speed pads, game controllers, or good CH equipment will give you different levels of control, but any of them will get you in to the game!

Fugi, are you using the 8 way hat on throttle for wasd? That's how I set up mine...just looking for any better possible configs. Thanks.

Aside of what Fugitive has, if you have CH pro-pedals as I do, you might want to consider using them instead. I use rudder axis to steer, right toe brake to accelerate, left toe brake to brake/reverse. (You need to use the CH control manager to set it up)

This is the CH Map I use with the above

Yes I use the 8 way on the throttle. I have left, right, w , and shift s on the hat. I can accelerate by banging the W, and stop on a dime with the other. I use both rudder pedals and keys to steer. So far it works better than it ever did the old way.

Still don't spot the bad guys fast enough tho. :furious
