Title: INSTASHIELD
Post by: Lab Rat 3947 on May 23, 2011, 11:32:13 PM
The mobile phone that I use is from a friend of mine, it's with from Sprint.
There was a charge of $9.95 for INSTASHIELD charged to the number that I use.
I have no idea where it came from.
She cancelled the charge and this month it showed up on another phone that is on her account.
There are 5 phones on her account.
She questioned her son whose phone number it was charged to and he has no idea where it came from.
I checked the internet and it comes back as something related to Windows and other downloaded apps.
We are trying to find out where it is coming from and why it has started showing up on the bill.
Has anyone else had this show up on your phone bill?

Did some googling myself, google will auto-correct your search to installsheild, when you correct it to instashield, this thread is on the second page.  There is very little info on it.  Son hasn't been downloading anything and he's not fessing up is he?  Either way, the easiest thing to do is call Sprint and find out for sure.

thanx for the reply. Her son is 26 and works for Wells Fargo. He's a responsible person. He says he has no idea what it is. And like I mentioned it showed up on the phone I'm using first. We wondering if it can be used in some sort of scam.
She'll be checking her new bill when it comes out to see if has migrated to one of the other 3 phones.
So far no one we have talked to knows anything about it. From what I read on the net it has something to do with downloads.
If you can, would you ask around if anyone you know has gotten a charge on their phone for this service.

CALL THE phone company and ask them what the charge is, and why they are allowing it onto your bill.

watch out sending a text to one of them "weird" text numbers, like 345978.  my gf sent a text to get a joke everyday, then she was charged 9.99 a month for some kind of "bid on prizes" scheme and supposedly pay less than retail.  we called the phone company and cancelled it, but they wouldnt refund the money we had already paid. we cancelled after 2 months.

now installshield is a windows program used to by some free programs to install themselves on your desktop.  kind of like the windows installation program.  normally it is free and some programs install it whether you want it or not.  last time it got installed on my computer was because I plugged in a sprint phone to it and it automatically d/l when I went to the website to install the drivers.  when I tried to removed installshield it messed up my windows and had to reinstall it.

if you look in your control panel in windows that's where it should be.

Unless the OP made a mis-type, I believe he is talking about instashield, not install shield.

wasnt sure, so my first paragraph refers to one possible way to get charged 9.99 on your phone.  sending a text for something that it's supposed to be free and you get charged.

Yup, hate being insidious, but called it.  It was Sprint.  I wouldn't trust them as far as you could throw one of their board members.  The sooner you get rid of them the happier you'll be.
