Title: Cannot remap Bailout key
Post by: mna78 on May 25, 2011, 05:11:57 AM
My Bailout key is currently set to "None" when I try to remap nothing happens?

Not a problem in a fighter really, but twice my my bomber has been going down and I'm unable to bail to take control of the remainging sitting duck bombers.

What "key" are you trying to set as a Bailout key and in what map. (The default is the "enter" key)

Edit:
You do know you have to hit that key 3 times in a row to bail out? - To avoid accidental bail.

I did try Ctrl + 2 to hop into another plane but this seems to work just for gunner positions in the other plane. key 1(pilot) always seesm to be the seat in the lead bomber.

Since it is all too easy to bail out accidentally trying to clear a stuck text window I have advocated for years mapping the key to Shift Enter x 3.

Just one small layer of protection against bailing out accidentally with a load of kills.

I had to laugh when you posted. - It was one of the first things I found out. It comes as a bit of a suprise when you think you have not hit the enter key properly to clear the text window, so of course the natural reaction is try again a couple of times - Suddenly you find you have parted company with your aircraft, tumbling towards terra firma.

I did it a couple of times before I realised what was going on. After that, it was very clearly ingrained in my grey matter, so fortunately I don't need to re-map with the shift. Good idea though - in my case I would  probably forget to use the shift and end up stuck in the blazing falling wreckage of the cockpit

I changed mine to the enter key next to the number pad.  No more accidental bailouts while typing.  :aok

I got dumped out of my plane once by a cat.  The cat walked across my keyboard, and out I went!   :lol

Ever since then, I haven't let a cat near my PC while flying.

B is of course the default key for secondary weapons, e.g. bombs on fighters, drop tanks, rockets. So long as you have other means of secondary weapon activation then its no problem!
