I don't think I've ever landed a Tiger successfully. Today I launched at a spawn and returned to the same spot with 3 kills. Upon exiting I read "You have crashed". Someone in the vicinity gets the kill. What am I missing? :headscratch: :headscratch:

The fact that a spawn has nothing to do with ending a mission. It's just a point in the are where you spawn in, that's all.
The mission landing result depends on following factors
- hostile or friendly territory
- presence of enemies
- vehicle damage status
- being on pavement (only applicable in friendly territory)
If you are undamaged and no enemy is around, you can successfully "land" your vehicle anywhere, even on a hostile base.

As Lushe has pointed out
The remote spawns are just launch points. To "land" you need to get back on friendly hard ground, such as a Road in a town or port etc. If you end your sorty out in wilds, it will be a "ditch" and if you have been hit it will be a "kill" if the other person(s) who hit you have not yet "landed"
Edit: Ops a little overlap with Luche's edit!

Luche, this never seems to happen to me, how far around are we talking about?

I believe the magic number is 6k.

Yes, 5 or 6k (I constantly forget the exact value).
I have done that so many times, particular in the low-population arenas. In LW the chance is much higher some enemy is being around (even manned ack guns do count!).
One trick to get enough distance from any enemies in a GV is NOT to drive back to the spawn, but into a totally different, unlikely direction. Everyone who suspects enemy GV will head to the spawn and the town.

No. As long as you are undamaged and there's no enemies within 5.5K you can land successfully anywhere on the map.

Thanks folks, it's makes sense to me now. My pintle was taken out by a strafing Bf110.

see if you outlast the guy who did the damage, and he ends sortie/dies, you can again land anywhere. :)
(i think)
