I just got an upgraded comp and 20 inch flatscreen. I got the game loaded and joystick and throttle all set up. Got in game and I have black and grey boxes for distant enemy and freindly. I am running an Intel G41express and updated driver as of today. My frame rate is adequate in the mid to high 40s with Eye Candy turned off. I have fiddled with resolution for both the game and the Vid card . I am currenly using the 1360 x 768 vid res as it appears normal looking. I can turn on Eye Candy and it looks great but even with it off cons and freindly look like black or grey "polygons" further than icon range. Once I get in to about 4-3 k or zoom, the plane form starts to appear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's a problem with the onboard Intel graphics. I have a squadmate suffering the same issues. Really you have three options:
1> Wait for a new video driver to correct the problem
2> Install (upgrade) to a separate video card instead of the onboard graphics
3> Deal with the boxes
As far as I know, there is no fix for that right now.

uh, what texture size are you running?
-
I have played around with it. Tried it at 512, but seems best at 1024. I have not downloaded texture pack.

i believe the recommended (by skuzzy) texture size is generally max 256 for onboard graphics chips...try scaling it down to 256 and see if those boxes go away.
-
Yah just tried that and no joy.

For the record, if you do not install the texture pack, and select 1024 textures, it is really still at 512 textures. I'm telling you though, there's nothing you can do about it right now.

Thanks Tigger I didint know that. And thanks to everyone who responded, after talking to some of my squaddies they have the same problem too. Oh well hope Intel will come up with some kind of fix. Until then Ill have to suffer and get used to it.

It might be worth contacting Intel's support team. If nothing else it might help them to be aware of the problem. If they can provide you with a fix I'd be greatly interested (as would HTC I BET!)

TO HTC: It might be worth investigating this issue. It's been mentioned before but I'll show you what's going on. Seems like everyone using integrated Intel Graphics is having this issue of planes in the distance showing up as a small box, instead of a single (or small glob of) pixels off in the distance. On one hand it seems like it would be an annoyance to those who are stuck with it, but on the other hand it might actually give them a small advantage by seeing planes way off in the distance that others wouldn't have necessarily seen.
I have a squaddie who is otherwise "relatively" happy with the performance of the Intel GMA X4500 integrated graphics on his system but greatly annoyed by this problem. Thanks!
