Title: P-47d-40 fuel gauges backwards?
Post by: gyrene81 on May 25, 2011, 11:20:09 PM
i don't know if this has been reported before, and it's not really that important...by default you start off burning the aux tank and it appears that the fuel gauge marked main on the right is the one that empties...

thats because the 2 guages dont actually show aux/main, they show total internal/selected tank. would be nice if they showed the separate tanks as IRL, although the guages for the wing tanks on the N are tiny and would be almost unreadable.

the N's individual wing tanks shouldnt be selectable either really, the options should be: main/aux/internal wings/left external/right external/centre external. interestingly the N manual says the normal order was 15mins main tank, alternate external tanks every 30mins til empty, aux tank down to 25galls, 10mins main, internal wing tanks til drained, then main again. so the aux was burnt off before the wing tanks, unlike AH where the wing tanks are burnt off first (which helps with rollrate.)

Everything you said is true.

However, that's not what he is referring to.

If you look at the gauge, the one marked "Main" is actually showing the level of the current tank in use. In this case the Aux tank. The unmarked gauge on the right is showing the overall fuel quantity.

gyrene is saying it is reversed.

I got that ... but swapping the labels or functionality over wouldnt help. it would actually be worse, at least now the RHS is labelled "Main" and shows the contents of the Main tank for most of the time (unless you take and use 2x150gall drops).

:headscratch:  so how are you supposed to be reading those guages? i thought the one on the right marked "main" was supposed to give overall fuel info and the one on the left was supposed to give per cell info. in that pic, i had been running exclusively on the aux tank. the one on the left should have shown actual fuel level of the aux tank rather than the right one.

its the other way round - the LHS is total fuel, RHS is fuel in your selected tank (both in %)  :)
