Anyone notice that when you set the 262 or 163's skin to Default in offline, they are Japanese skins

The German skins are under modeled  :devil

I recall a REALLY old Special Events terrain that used Japanese skins for the 262 and 163. You can "overwrite" default skins in a map file, and since HTC won't accept fake skins, that's how they fixed it for the event. I'm supposing you have that map loaded offline.

I think the new Japanese Terrain uses those skins as well. I could be wrong though.

When that happens, it is built into the terrain file. It's not a game change, it's just that map.

Almost forgot to mention that the 29 also has a different skin as well.

Again... it's a map thing. You were in the SEA, no doubt. You were on the Burma map or the Japan map. One of those is the only one so far that has a custom B-29 skin.

What map?  Got me curious.
