Title: DUKW
Post by: Rob52240 on May 27, 2011, 06:15:35 AM
I'd like to see it as an option.

Primary
armament:    ring mount for machine gun fitted to 25% built

Payload capacity:    2.5 short tons (2.3 t) or 12 troops

Suspension    wheels: 6×6

Speed:
50 mph (80 km/h) on road,
5.5 kn (10.2 km/h; 6.3 mph) on water

It would be good for historic reasons and even if its a hangar queen it probably deserves a spot, but it wold get eaten alive in the MA.

You load it full of tourists with cameras and then give a tour of the town and harbor at about $20 per head.

I can get in my Jeep, drive to Penn's Landing in Philly and be on one in 5-10 minutes  :rock

We stopped in the Dells for a day on our way up to our vacation spot last year.  I remember doing the Duck rides as a kid, so this year we took our kids.

Most of the drivers are college kids on summer break.  Near the end of the tour they stop and try to sell little History Pamphlets.  The sales of the books is where the kids make most of their money.
