LThunderpocket,
A little advice. First off trying to train without a working mike is extremely slow and ponderous. It can be done but takes at least twice as long as, explaining what you are doing as you are doing it. Secondly, once you get good enough and have been around long enough, they will come to you, no need to advertise. This kind of advertisement will probably bring you more vets trying to knock you off a pedestal then bringing in people actually wanting to learn the P-47.

I spent several rounds in the DA with vRECON yesterday and the fact that he didnt have a mic didn't hurt the quality of training he had to share. He did a great job helping me understand what I was doing right and wrong, and explained contol inputs for snaprolls, tailslides, etc. with recovery techniques very well. I'd recommend giving him a chanse, he's quite helpful and patient!
<S> all!

LThunderpocket,
You have the right attitude :aok. My advice wasn't meant to be discouraging at all, just trying to be helpfull in making your goals easier. If training is your passion in this game, by all means do what you like to do. This will keep you from burnout in this game. It's what kept me from leaving years ago. Owlblink seems very pleased and that's great, and I'm sure it feels great on your end too.
The reason I so highly recommend a Mic while teaching is you can call out the fault as it happens, rather then telling them what they did wrong after it happens. It's more instant feedback and the student doesn't have to think back to what they did, since they just did it. For example if the student breaks before your 3/9 line in a first merge (allowing you an easy lead turn), you can instantly call it out to them. If you had to type it, he might of already started on his second merge, then you get which merge confusion for the student. Not saying that it can't be done with typing, I learned much of my 109 stuff by having it typed to me. But it makes training much easier for both.

A little unclear... is it in the Training Arena, or the Dueling Arena? Title says TA, but you mentioned DA a few times in the posts...

you do not have to go to the DA to do that.........
we do skill assessment flight all the time in the TA, without ever having to switch to the DA and then switch back to the TA to teach........
just a friendly FYI
hope this helps

was i training anyone?no.i was simply having fun with some people but your allmightyness had to get all technical like some kid trying to run a lemonade stand with his little brother."no u cant do that...thats against the rules blah blah blah."i simply dont get why you even cared.you were the only one complaining in that situation

New people coming to the Training Arena start out in the tower at field A1. For a new player, the game can be confusing and frustrating. They come to the TA to dip their toe into the game and they don't realize that the settings keep others from damaging their plane.
The rule about not bombing field A1 or strafing the field is to give those new players a fighting chance to become comfortable with the surroundings and hopefully become a customer. Or so other players can ask for some help or practice something without being harassed.
You are the one who was out of line. Every trainer would have warned you, then ejected you from the arena if you ignored the warning. There are reasons why we have those rules, even if you don't understand the reason.

yes,but there were no new players and everyone was having fun.earlyer today there was someone who I'd say was no older then 11,but i sat there for about an hour helping him with aim and showing him how to land, even though his voice was kind of on the squeeky side.i wasnt bein an idiot and goin all out chainsaw massacare on him.I understood he was new,and i helped him as long as i could (was very tired)
now when theres people in there that are just messing around that have been playing for awhile,it doesnt seem harmfull at all other then it being a rule.everything was fine until fuzegod decided to strike us down with his super powers.
PS.dont turn this into an argument thread, its for people who might want help.

You are the one arguing. Rolex stated a simple request and gave the reasons for it.

It takes years to build a good reputation, it only takes seconds to get a trashy one. Which do you want to work on? Breaking rules even when nobody is around is STILL breaking the rules.
-
I finally got some time with vRecon in the TA yesterday, and just wanted to say thanks. He must have spent an hour with me going over guns defense, that wicked tail slide thingie, scissors, rolling scissors, flap and throttle usage, etc. It was REALLY helpful. (Or will be, once I practice a few hundred hours more :-).
A big <S> to vRecon for using their time to help out the new guys! And that goes for everyone who does the same. I showed up there one day, trying to find trainers, there weren't any online, but wing47 helped me out all the same. To me, that's the great part of the community, not the trash-talking on ch 200 (although we need that too).
-
Anyone who gives up his time to help someone else is fine with me!
Especially in my favorite ride. Been flying it before it was "en vogue".

-warty if you would like further training let me know in game.i was very tired the other night and i dont feel that i help out as to the full extent that i could have
-
Thanks Recon. I need to do some "self-study" I think before go back and get more help. I want to digest all that, and try to use it, then see where I'm falling down.
BTW, I used the funky thing today, did it right twice (1 kill), did wrong once (got killed).
I tried following reverend in the vertical twice today, got out-turned both times... bastige drops his gear in that f4u-4 to pull tighter. Definitely not going to be able to follow a good F4U driver in the vertical, need to come up with another strategy there.
Also got into 2 fights with Hub in his P47D in the DA, but we got interrupted both times. Anyway, having fun, taking small steps...

they still explode the same, even when they try to pull the fancy smancy moves :t

ive flown against vRECON's p47D-40 (or was it an M? :headscratch:)
ether way, i was like :huh at how tight he got that thing to turn.
so in my opinion, he knows how to fly that jug :aok :salute

Not much to do VS F4Us, I find these birds are the most fearsome ennemy of the Jug. Luckily, they didn't fight each other during WWII because the Hog can out turn, out E, out accelerate and out stall the Jug quite easily for equal and advanced sticks.
-
99% of the time if I'm on you'll find me in a D11. Just plane fighting....and listening to others say "That Jug dint do that did he?"
I'm lucky to get in 10 hours a month. Other things ta do during the spring and summer ;) Ink knows what :D
-
Holy cow lepape. I just watched those 2 youtube videos in your signature for the first time. Those are amazingly well put together. The flying is unreal too, of course. That's what I love about this game... so much to learn!

Equal pilots ANY corsair is 4 times ANY JUG is, hands down. There really is no comparison.
In other words:
Me in a corsair PWNS me in a JUG
Lepape is a corsair PWNS lepape in a JUG
It really is that simple. This is a perfect example of how the plane "matters"
I know most like to say "plane doesn't matter it is the pilot" but I say BUNK to that! The plane choice can be an overwhelming advantage

I almost agree except what if the JuG is fighting in a "better" plane that he does not "know" but he is fighting JuG, in a "worse" plane that he knows very well.....hmmmm hmmm what if...
but ya I agree the plane has a lot to do with it, but truly there are so many variables when it comes to a "dogfight".
there is no "one thing" that makes a great dogfighter......the more of the variables you know and understand, and have the ability to manipulate, (that in it self being a variable", dog fighter better you will make.
:rock
-
Yeah, the only thing that you can take to your advantage in the Jug is to play with the mind of your opponent. That's the only variable you can fool around with given said parameters. Jug is too good of a target, so use that first thought as a killing tool. But that still won't work VS very patient ones or the Runstang familly...

Well this is why I used the examples I did! I am quite positive I would DESTROY myself with a corsair while flying a JUG :huh
I'm confused now, but I think you get the point :headscratch:
I'm sure Lepape would say the same!

The plane choice can definitely be an advantage "when all things are equal".
They seldom are equal though.
Almost never.
I'd go so far as to say it's highly unusual for there to be a fight where "all things are equal". It's a perfect example, sure, but of an excruciatingly rare scenario. And you're correct, it is that simple.
One of you has more speed, more alt, more brains, more experience, more finesse, more fuel, more ammo, is closer to a base, is closer to help, is more rested, is more bored, is more distracted, has sunlight on his monitor, etc, etc, etc...
And thank heavens for that! The MA would be a boring place indeed if "equal" were the norm...

True enough although for a JUG to be on par with a corsair the advantages for the JUG would have to be numerous and or extreme ie: pilot ability, speed, alt etc etc.
The corsair on the other hand would require faaaaaaaaaaaaar less advantages to be far superior the a JUG.
Yes my examples presume co-alt, co-E and obviously same pilot as I've stated.

I guess I'm having trouble buying into the argument, because you seem to insist on such an extreme example.
Saying "Yes my examples presume co-alt, co-E and obviously same pilot as I've stated" seems akin to stating that "In a purely fanciful, make-believe, impossible to occur fight, plane choice would be a big deal".
I've seen you fly, and doubt that you're as unsuccessful overall as a statement like that would make you appear. I bet you regularly come out ahead with your plane-of-choice, even against "better" planes. Roughly what % of fights do you lose purely due to your opponents choice of plane?
The corsair is a very good plane, of course, but I've been beaten handily by several pilots flying jugs. As a matter of fact, I see the jugs as some of the most deadly planes in the game. To say they're radically outclassed by the corsair doesn't fit my view of them, to be sure.
-

This is my point and nothing more. to over analize it is not required.
"IF" <-- (big IF), all was same same except plane, the corsair has almost all of the better cards.

How would you know? You don't fly the Jug anymore :)
Jeez these 110 pilots think they know it all!
-
F4U1D: Turn, flaps, speed, E-retention, roll, acceleration.
P47D40: Visibility, guns, climb, toughness.
About equal in dive.
I'd say below 5k the Hog holds a significant advantage. 15k is about even. Above 20k moderate advantage to Jug. (Supercharger)
I've long held that I should learn the F4U because it has a way to beat most of the planeset. Despite this, I have yet to have the same success in it mostly due to shooting accuracy/convergence issues. Heck, I do better in an F6F and few would argue it is better than the 1A/1D.
Right now 1v1 me in a Jug loses to me in a Corsair about 75% of the time. You take me in 10 jugs against me in 10 hogs and it starts to go the other way. How's that for a mind spasm?

i accualy think the corsair dives better.it picks up speed alot faster then a jug in a dive from what ive seen.
-
Played with it offline. Dive acceleration difference in a full power pushover dive is negligible. Interestingly though, the D Hog's compressibility onset occurred slightly later than the -40 Jug's (~575 vs 560) with slightly better roll authority. The roll authority result was as expected, the compressibility result was not. Still, both are excellent going downhill and using the Hog's tiny advantages in combat amidst a plethora of other factors (ie gross wt, dive entry airspeed) is hard to say the least, ergo: "about equal in dive."
