Title: Crash AGAIN!
Post by: viking73 on May 28, 2011, 12:59:54 AM
:furious  3 times tonight. Same thing that I have reported time and time again. I really don't want to quit and don't want this to happen when i'm in a scenerio or fso or snapshot. Most unstable game i've ever played. If I was a game site reviewing AH2 I wouldn't recommend it because of constant crashes.

Well it seems to me you want someone to fix it for you. You started THIS THREAD (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,307704.0.html) and when Chalenge tried to talk to about windows crashes and such you stopped answering. You mention being computer savy yet you are the one with the problem. I can run the game all day and NOT have a single crash. In the last 6 months I have 1 disco.

It sounds to me that is a problem with the way YOUR computer is reacting with the game, not the other way around. Unfortunately those answers you DON'T want to hear like drivers and memory, and cleaning your system are the one most likely to help. At least post a Dxdiag report to see if anyone can spot an issue.

i'm also having a similar problem though i'm playing a offline missions called the "penance" (link is here: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=05de6c7453b33d59f2fee8ce6995e717&topic=283814.0).

for some reason it stops working but when it does work a little it freezes in the middle of the mission where i think the plane warps.

can anyone help me?

sure! just to start off, do you have any problem with offline mode on a different terrain using default sounds? do you experience the same issues online in any of the arenas?

this is the only offline mission i am playing, the others that i downloaded don't seem to work because they are outdated  (old patches of aces high).

I just recently uninstalled the aces high and reinstalled it again.

If you have any suggestions for updated offline missions maybe i can try them out.

do you experience the same issues online in any of the arenas?

no, i don't play online cuz can't afford it as of now :(

so it's just a single mission file you're experiencing a problem with? again, what happens in offline mode using a different terrain, doesn't have to be a mission, just flying around using a different terrain...

Brilliant, Fugitive. Imagine, the customer wants the company to fix the problem on their software. Novel idea. Well, I don't read the forums that often so I wasn't aware that Challenge responded to me. Thank you for letting me know. I started a new one cause the other one was past 30 days. (which you should already know since you've been here so long) I will look into what Challenge stated. I keep up on my drivers and memory and clean my system. My squad has 61 MA discos (disconnects while flying) and more during scenerios, fso's and snapshots. About 10 or so fly regularly. Don't know how many happen in the tower. I don't think MY computer caused them but I could be wrong. No, I don't want to hear the standard answers that you stated because HTC DOESN'T want to hear it's their program. I think YOU need to go count how many patches HTC has done compared to my system being changed (0). They are aware of some problems since Challenge stated 64bit systems and USBs. But I'm (we're) not gonna unplug USBs and change system so AH2 will work. That kinda seems what the implication is. The customer doesn't change to fit the product. But I will look into it on my side to some degree. As part of my $180 payment a year, I expect HTC to do the same. But I can't ignore that out of dozens of games I now and have played, none of them act the way AH2 does. And as company reps which i assume you and Challenge are, I don't expect the verbal harassment. And if you're not speaking for the company then I don't care about your comments.

OK Mr Know-it-all, please suffer with as many disco's as you are plagued with. A couple hours of working with your system "may" cure, but you go ahead and enjoy your disco and crashes. Me, I'll continue to run with a clean stable system that for some reason doesn't crash nor does it disco. Good Luck!

I'm alright Jack ...

the fact that you dont crash is completely irrelevant. I have 2 squaddies who have just given up with AH for the moment because having done numerous vanilla AH installs, OS installs, driver updates etc etc and they still cannot get AH working reliably. both of them know what they are doing with PCs.

my system is XP Pro, 21 processes with AH, X52 software and drivers, solid standard hardware, latest reliable drivers. for the first few 2.24 patches I CTD'd all the time. It now works reliably again for me, but not because of anything I've done (what else can you do to a sorted, minimal system anyway?)

new driver aren't always best. I know I've upgraded them and started having issue. So I do stupid stuff like roll back to old drivers. NEWEST ISN"T ALWAYS BEST. Far to many jump on the "latest is greatest" band wagon and cause them selves nothing but problems. As Skuzzy says if your connected to the internet your computer gets changes ALL THE TIME! People saying "they" haven't done anything to change their computer may be true as far as it goes, but IT HAS CHANGED!

Digging into your computer and knowing what you have and spotting the changes is what keeps your computer clean and stable. I've gotten lazy, but I use to go through mine every Saturday morning. While I don't have mine as crippled as Skuzzy seems to keep his  :D It's all about maintenance.

If you post on the message boards your going to get responses, even ones you don"t want to hear, but me I'd rather see ALL of them just in case I skipped a step here or there.  You ask for "help" is it too much when you get it?

The point I was trying to make is that the game CAN be run stable with out crashes and discos. I do it every day. Maybe I know my computer better than others, but if your here asking for help, don't piss and moan when you get it.

I have been having similar random crashes, and I am more then willing to try just about anything that anyone thinks has a slim chance of working.  In my case, the crashes always seem to occur in relation to a sound.   I do not have any custom sounds anymore.  Unfortunately, I can't quite isolate a common cause.
Title: Re: Crash AGAIN!
Post by: The Fugitive on May 29, 2011, 10:12:27 PM
Is your sound running on USB off of the MB, or do you have a separate sound card? USB with onboard sound uses a bunch of CPU. You may be over driving your CPU. Try cutting back on the eye candy (shadows and textures) and run it that way for a bit to see if it helps or not.
Title: Re: Crash AGAIN!
Post by: viking73 on May 29, 2011, 10:42:43 PM
Sound has also been a crasher that HTC has had to patch for before. Does it happen in other games? See if you have the same (or similar) problem (freezups, looping). Anything happens would be the best way to pinpoint that it is what Fugitive says for if you're over driving your CPU it will happen there as well. Constantly using 1 game doesn't eliminate the possibility it is software related.

Well, actually I didn't since this is the BUG REPORT board and not TECHNICAL SUPPORT.

Have you backed up your settings file and have you reloaded it after your crashes? I assume No so I'll quote our resident guru:

Another thing to be aware of.  Any abnormal game crash could corrupt a configuration file and once that happens every time the game tries to use it, it could cause the game to crash.

Move the "settings" folder out of the way after any abnormal game crash in order to do proper debugging.

Also note, if you are running any anti-anything type of program, those can cause game crashes and config corruption as well.
