This raid got spotted a bit out giving us time to up (I was actually outbound to another area from the field and doubled back hence my alt when entering). Even so I actually went and counted them up and there where still 19 total in the raid and eight of us up in fighters (Only me and like one other with any notable alt) and two flaks out on the field as they hit the perimeter. Literally basically two to one… and every single one is dead within 4 minutes and we lost I think three guys in the fight. The town is basically untouched and almost nothing of note on the field is lost.
I was stunned how quickly it was destroyed and knew I had to post up a video of it, nice work to the other guys defending there and thanks to the guys in the raid for giving us something big and juicy to shot at. :P

good job!

I'm guessing none of the Mossie drivers had any idea how to use it as a fighter or even had their Mossie clean for air-to-air combat....

Most people never fly the Mossie except in the ground pound role. I am not at all surprised that they got routed that quickly. If they had an ounce of skill, the defenders would have been slaughtered mercilessly.

They did come in heavy some had bombs, but most had rockets, once they saw defenders up most of them dumped their ords before they got near anything or whatever was closest and tried to start fighting us off. I'm sure they were expecting to just roll in and pork all the ack then vulch anything that tried to up, seeing defenders up and waiting seemed to just thrown them into total disorder. I'd be interested to hear the comms from the other side out of curiosity.

I seriously thought we where going to get owned, but it turned out to be the total opposite. That was why I ended up posting it went from "oh this is gonna hurt" to "wait what we won already!?" in less then five minutes.

You fail at aiming. :P

Rockets are the worst thing for a Mossie engaged in air-to-air combat to have been carrying.
At 50% fuel a clean Mossie will do 357mph on the deck. With the rocket rails (after dumping the rockets) the top speed is 345mph. They very significantly reduce combat performance. The bomb shackles cost, IIRC, about 5mph after the bombs are gone.

Based on what exactly? I don't pretend to be a some badass sniper, but I'm sorry landing hits all over 3 out of 4 targets I fired at during a fight hardly strikes me as "failing".

If I'm gonna be honest... I doubt it would have made a lick of difference they wouldn't have had time to run up to that full speed and they wouldn't have been able to climb away from anything attacking them either. Beside that most of them tried to turn fight anyway, they clearly had no idea what they where doing so heavy or clean I'm thinking they'd still have wiped spectacularly.
-
Quite likely true, however the 12mph loss of speed is also a loss of performance in other areas. The Mossie is not a top end fighter, but it is adequate in most circumstances, if the pilots don't suck.
-
Oh I think I just figured out why BMathis needed to get in a cheap shot I went and looked at the film and he was in the Mossie swarm.

So you got...3 assists?
Sorry, couldn't resist. :D
Seriously though, you need less rudder. Maybe some scaling. Your nose is wobbling all over the place. If you settle the nose bouncing, you'd take down more enemies with less ammo.

I knew you'd go back and look. I was only messing with ya. :)

All this talk of the Mossi doing X speed needs to be ammended with the following information: only with WEP and only for a 1-3 minutes. The WEP is short lived and the Mossi doesnt just bound right up to the listed speed once WEP is engaged.
I use WEP for grabbing alt after an attack dive or to help accelerate and keep up with (or away from) the smaller more agile fighters. I dont rely on it, it is like Popeye's spinach.
-
It's a full 5 minute WEP like most planes. Only plane with less than 5 minutes is (if I recall) the Ki-84, with 90 seconds or some freakishly short time.
The plane is big, yes, but the WEP boost is significant. It's also a clean airframe that reaches high speeds easily. Don't count out that WEP setting as inconsequential. It makes as much as a difference as it does on, say, the spit, or the p47.
EDIT: P.S. I agree with the "bad gunnery" comments. You should seriously have had 10 kills with your position and ammo loadout. You dove in behind them, all tail astern. You could have just latched on to tail end Charlie and worked your way to the front racking up tons. Only takes a 1-2 second burst to kill a mossie (or disable it) from 6x50cal.
-
Roll inverted and a plane on the deck will have his con shown.

I know how brutal those attack dives are. Many mossies run away faster than I can catch up after catching alt. Then when I pull up on its tail... a guy appears behind me. Good job getting that raid.
-
A proper attack would have come in from alt with the Mossies diving to attack. Escorting Mossies in clean, air-to-air config, would have kept pressure on the defenders while the strike Mossies go in at speeds they cannot be intercepted at. Screw sneaking it.
It might very well fail, but it would be a lot more fun and it couldn't go any worse than that raid did.
