If you connect through a router it may be your Router firewall.
If you have a router what make and model is it?

Its a newer netgear, only like 6 months old.
This router: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/NETGEAR+-+N300+Wireless-N+Router/8998506.p?id=1218007383662&skuId=8998506&st=netgear%20router&cp=1&lp=1
And ive got multiple other games on my laptop, and all of them have played fine since the day we got the new router.

I'm getting a firewall error message as well. I have the Windows XP Pro (SP3) firewall shut off, I uninstalled the AVG software, and disabled the firewall in my Cisco/Linksys E2000 wireless router.
-
Still no luck. Even after reconfiguring the wireless router. Still get a message saying AH can't connect to do a version check, check the firewall.
-
The message is just to let you know the game cannot connect to do version verification. This usually means something is blocking the game from accessing the server. It can be a firewall, or port blocking, or a general issue with reaching the server itself.
Software which can inhibit the game would be any anti-virus, many malware blockers, and most security programs.
Note, if it is Norton blocking the game, the only way to stop it is to remove Norton from the computer and then get the tool from Symantec to restore the operation of the computer back to how it was before Norton molested it.
Just in case you are using a specific firewall which is IP address or port managing. The verification server is 206.16.60.42 and the port range is 3000 to 4000, inclusive.
-
I went through my Cisco/Linksys router settings, and there is nothing blocked, the firewall in it is turned off.
The firewall built in to Windows XP Pro is turned off, even though AH is allowed in the settings for it.
I completely removed the only other security software, AVG Free, from the computer.
I think I'll try to download AH II and do a fresh install.
-
AVG has caused issues with the game, in the past. Removing AVG may not actually fix it either.
-
I was only at version 2.2 I think.
I completely uninstalled AH, I'm downloading the latest version, and the latest hi res pack.
We'll see what happens when I get it installed.
I'd hate to think I need to go digging in the registry and weeding out the AVG stuff.
I guess I need to look for new anti-virus software, I didn't like AVG, it had at least 6-8 processes running constantly.
-
No wonder. Version 2.2 cannot find the verification server as it has been relocated.
