We fired only 12 gauge shot guns, I've never fired a gun in my life so I figured this was taking a leap before crawling but I went with it anyway.
Here are the pictures I got of the guns while we were going through the gun safety course and learning each of the guns individually.

That one in the middle is the first one I fired, and what I fired most often, I also fired the Semi-Automatic and the double barrel which practically flew out of my hands.(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h375/F35_LightningBravo/240182_176642272391366_100001367835388_409332_3291706_o.jpg)

Here are the links from you tube where I fire them at the beginning of the day.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0TVpIRWt1A (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0TVpIRWt1A)This one I was shooting at steel people, or targets(Just steel targets that fall over) I was using bird shot and only got two down cause I was aiming for the chest area instead of the head. My bad! :uhoh
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMwfYFm7LWE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMwfYFm7LWE) The guy in red was the instructor but there ware 6 adults in our group, all police officers or deputies. Here's skeet shooting, I missed both of them but that was the second time other than practice firing so Yeah I sucked at it. I was able to get 3 later before we left so I accomplished something at least. Also They way my friend recorded it was weird so the video is sideways :headscratch: Yeah I couldn't figure it out
Also Can someone please translate this? I saw it on the underpass on Tuesday when we hiked at Hollywood Georgia and I was told to take a picture and get it translated if I could. You might want to measure the barrel length of your shortest shotgun. If it is not at least 16in, I'd be very careful who you let know you own it. Up to ten years and/or $100,000 fine for that BS stuff.

I think that was Barry's gun, he's an officer so I don't know how that works with that. All those guns were owned by police officers.

I agree, but man I was scared the first time I took the shot, then when I found out it wasn't that bad It got better until I used the double barrel, it practically flew out of my hands the kick was so strong.

It should not be that expensive, maybe $10 for a clip. Try finding a range near you that lets you rent weapons, or a buddy that has one.

I've seen that a few times, I was actually thinking about that when I first fired. Just watched another video with a 10 gauge on you tube, reminded me, one of the guys ear protection fell off cause of the kick of the double. It was awesome.

My friend has 2 Mosin Nagant's, he has it in his closet with a few boxes of ammo. Coolest thing ever but man those things are heavy.

Heavy? M1 is 12lbs and I used to spin them. Just got to work out buddy.
Anyways, did the get to fire the Mossy?

My friend Didn't go to the range because he didn't like the idea of going to Police camp because he didn't want to join the force. Even though we don't do that stuff, its about team building and getting out there, we are going hiking at fort Yargo tomorrow which isn't the 7 miles we hiked in Hollywood and the water will be warmer.
Also I mean the Mosin was heavy, M1 doesn't sound that bad actually.

Why not just go to a private range? Everyone things they are expensive but it should be like $10-15 for the entrance + the ammo. That way you get to place around with a wide verity of guns.
I don't know where you live but I usually just go out into the desert and don't play anyone, just buy the ammo in advance.
Mossy is ~9lb, M1 is ~12lb.

Umm... you know the point is not to fire both barrels at the same time right?
If you don't like shotgun recoil get a semi-auto, or just man up :old: The shells you're shooting will dictate how much recoil there is, and for just playing on the range you don't need 3 1/2" high-brass magnum shells. Just some 3" #8 birdshot will do for skeet, trap, clays, or just blowing stuff up.
-
I take guns for granted. I had a gun in my hands at 5, and I can walk out my back door and shoot off a few rounds any time I feel like. Kinda feel for you city guys.

I fired one and it almost flew out of my hands, I tried again with a stronger grip and it stayed but it racked my shoulder. Its harder for me cause I'm all skin and bone, i'm the skinniest kid in my camp :(

Why does it kick so much? Was it meant to kick like that?

No, it's just that it fires a bullet bigger than a Desert Eagle. It's got the largest caliber of any production pistol that I know of.

LEO's can have short sawn off/PG no butt stock guns.
Shotguns are also the cheapest big guns to shoot when using high shots (cheap) rounds such as 7-8 shot. They are also the most fun, IMHO.

First shotgun i ever shot was my grandpas 10 gauge Coachman's Gun, i was nine or ten years old and still remember the Horror of shooting that gun, First shot kicked me so freaking hard my finger hit the second trigger going back, oh man i can't tell you the pain as the second shot fired before the first was over, my grandpa picked me up off the ground and kinda stares at me ( making sure i was OK) starts chuckling then says well heck i though i only put one shell in it. my grandpa he did that for a reason, reason was i wasn't ready for a gun of that size, he gave me his 22 winchester single shot from his collection months earlier but i kept pestering the heck out of my Grandpa relentlessly to shoot it until well, he let me shoot it lol

Its a Federal Law (National Firearms Act ("NFA"), anything under 18" you need to get the Fed Tax stamp.(civilian ownership) Just like owning a machine gun or suppressor.
The Act defines a number of categories of regulated firearms. These weapons are collectively known as NFA firearms and include the following:
Machine guns - this includes any firearm which can fire more than 1 cartridge per trigger pull. Both continuous fully-automatic fire and "burst fire" (i.e., firearms with a 3-round burst feature) are considered machine gun features. The weapon's receiver is by itself considered to be a regulated firearm. Courts have held that where a worn Firearm malfunctions in such a way as to fire multiple cartridges one or more times, this makes it a machine gun.
Short barreled rifles (SBRs) - this category includes any firearm with a buttstock and either a rifled barrel under 16" long or an overall length under 26". The overall length is measured with any folding or collapsing stocks in the extended position. The category also includes firearms which came from the factory with a buttstock that was later removed by a third party. (some smaller "trapper" type rilles are allowed though
Short barreled shotguns (SBSs) - this category is defined similarly to SBRs, but the length limit for the barrel is 18" instead of 16", and the barrel must be a smoothbore. The minimum overall length limit remains 26".
Suppressors - this includes any portable device designed to muffle or disguise the report of a portable firearm. This category does not include non-portable devices, such as sound traps used by gunsmiths in their shops which are large and usually bolted to the floor.
-
So a double-barreled shotgun counts as a machinegun?
-Penguin
-
So a double-barreled shotgun counts as a machinegun?
No, a single trigger pull only fires one barrel. On a single trigger gouble barrel, you have to pull the trigger twice to fire both. On a double trigger gun, you have to pull each trigger once to fire both barrels, so two trigger pulls.
-
No, I meant that if one trigger fired both barrels at once.
-Penguin
-
No, it wouldn't be considered a machine gun. A machine gun loads itself, (like a machine). He has but 2 rounds and 2 barrels and fired at the same time.

Aha, so if I built that metalstorm thing and went to the range it'd be all good? :devil

Try it and see. :aok
For me it's the challenge of seeing how good I can be. My favorite kind of shooting is stuff like skeet, and sporting clays because it is a challenge, and loads of fun. It's hard to describe the feeling on a sporting clays course, standing there, trying to anticipate where the clay is going to go, hoping that your reflexes are quick enough to get it.
Alternatively I think stationary targets with rifles or handguns is fun in a different way. It's all about precision, controlling your breathing, perfecting your grip, judging the wind, getting a perfect squeeze, trying to get this grouping just a little tighter then the last one. I've never done any competition target shooting, to me it's always just a competition against myself.
Not just guns either, I enjoy archery for the same reasons, some of the most fun I've had is bowfishing.
Also, guns are just cool. :D

I'll be honest, people with an attitude like yours around guns scare me. I've seen people like that around, inevitably they start thinking like Rambo, and doing stupider and stupider stuff, and getting careless, till somebody gets hurt.
If I where at the range with you, and you started talking about playing Rambo, and power, that'd be that last you touched any of my guns. Shooting is fun, but it also demands serious attention to safety, which doesn't match well with playing Rambo.

Yeah, I was shooting clays the other week and quite enjoyed it, which was what got me wondering!
And archery's brilliant - I used to do it (with sights, which always came loose and annoyed the hell out of me :() quite a lot, but have always wanted to get hold of a decent wooden bow and go out to the countryside at some point - there is something to be said for simplicity!

Sights on a bow are humane thing to use when shooting animals...
However...the essence of archery resides inside of your soul...when you are one with the bow...you can close your eyes and drill the center of the target every time...
Its a Zen thing...
Try shooting paper plates tacked to a hay bale at 50 yards on a moonless night...and the only feedback you get is the arrow 'popping' as it penetrates the plate...
A very satisfying mental space to be in...

If/when i do ever get a bow, it won't be for hunting - I'm not even sure using bows for hunting is legal over here (and even if it were, I probably couldnt be arsed, tbh :P). I'm not at all familiar with anything to do with Zen (unless I am but just dont know it), but just being able to aim without a sight is something I'd like to be able to do!

+1 on this.
Also... For me, when shooting quite a few of the firearms in my collection, there is a connection to history.
All that, and I just absolutely love the smell of burnt gunpowder.

A lot of Britons and Europeans never have, and you generally have to jump through a lot of hoops if you actually want to own a gun. It's not like in the US where you can walk into a store with $500 and walk out with a rifle.
Most Britons I've talked to who have actually shot guns seem to have shot skeet, that seems to be at least somewhat popular (more than any other kind of firearms sporting). Of course then there's the whole 'country landowner hunting birds' stereotype thing.
Shooting paper targets with a rifle I can see as rather hit or miss (I think it's fun), but shooting skeet is very fun in my opinion, if unfortunately a bit expensive.

I'm not from Europe (but that's where I got my first airsoft gun). My mom hates guns (from NERF to Airsoft to BB to real guns), and took away every single airsoft gun I had because she knew that the police would shoot first and ask questions later. They were right- I could have gotten killed. It was dumb to run around looking like an insurgent. I really did- I had a baseball cap, a scarf over my face, ballistic sunglasses, grenades, several differnt airsoft guns (none of came with orange tips).
All the cartons said 18+, but I was able to walk right in and buy my first one at age 11.

I'm taking the opposite approach with my children. I am teaching the proper respect and handling of firearms. I want my daughters to be comfortable, safe, and effective with any gun they pick up. This is my youngest shooting a Sig Sauer Mosquito, which is a .22LR training pistol last fall. She was 7 years old when this was taken.

Here she is shooting a Ruger 10/22 at a 100 yard target. She is surprising good with the rifle.

I have a question, is shooting a hobby, or for self-defense? Or is it a bit of both?
-Penguin
-
I have a question, is shooting a hobby, or for self-defense? Or is it a bit of both?
For me, both...
I shoot because I enjoy it, but some of the shooting I enjoy most are drills that are designed to improve defensive skills.
One drill I like is this...
We put up 8 or 10 paper plates on the backstop. They are at different heights and spread at least a foot or two apart. Then we use a large black marker to number them. But we don't number them in order.
Then from 25feet, pistol at the high ready position, a second person (standing behind the shooter) calls out a number. The shooter presents the gun to the called target and puts a round into it. Then back to high ready until the second person calls another target. The object is to get onto the correct target and hit it. Not necessarily really fast, as fast as you can do it but still be absolutely accurate.
