i just NEED to share this, i used to follow the work of the company that makes this game and now they have a new project wich is called Chivalry Medieval Warfare.
it is medieval as always, no fantasy world involved, no magic, just cold steel battle. i always loved this fps game and now... well it just got perfect.
it is in early alpha stage but i cant wait for the release. i want this game as much as bar wants his m18.

ah yes, im totally gonna buy that one too. oblivion came with a unique single player experience but IMO the best meele system is with the chivalry guys. and man i do like multiplayer on that style, have you ever played Age of Chivalry? that game is so much fun.
also if you like the fantasy stuff there is Dark messiah of migth and magic... but man....
MEDIEVAL WARFARE!!!!! :noid

Both pale with respect to Mount&Blade (www.taleworlds.com). The only game that got melee right. The real game content is in the free mods that are available to it though, as the "native" single player and multi-player are quite shallow. Some of the the mods are truly amazing.
-
What Bozon said! In spades.
M&B got it right, and they made it modifiable so that it didn't get stale.
I didn't really get into the multiplayer side of it. But I was a hard core M&B fan for several years.
-
I wish they'd do something about those mountain-climbing horses in M&B, and a more flexible tactical system would be nice.

Oblivion pale in comparison to M&B :rofl
M&B suked, there may have been good elements in it, but to say it was better then Oblivion is really stretching it, and so so far from the truth. Oblivion is the best Fantasy game ever made, I have literally Hundreds and hundreds of hours playing it, modding it, customizing it, M&B was clunky, graphics were lame at best, it had so many bugs in it, it was almost unplayable, and ya I tried it on at least 4 different occasions.
I personally think M&B is a horrible game...and you cant get more D&D dweeby then me.

more dev videos

and of course, it wouldnt be the age of chivalry creators if it there wasnt decapitation and head crushes! muahahaha
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3I2l6ljjTbA&feature=related
about mount and blade... i have tried it once, didnt like it. Age of chivalry is tons of fun but because of the engine, the gameplay gets limited. and thats why i am waiting for this one to come out, man when i saw you actually had to aim at your oponent's weapon movement in order to defend correctly i thougt "this is it man!"
aaaaaand of course: decapitating someone is always fun.

there is a mod for Oblivion called "Deadly Reflex" not only can you decapitate some one, but you can cut them in half, and if you time it right you can cut both there hands off and watch them die screaming and wailing in pain.
plus another mod for arrows if you hit them in the center of the chest they fall to their knees trying to dig out the arrow while blood is pouring out of them :D

hahaha thats what i call gore.

ya man Oblivion is a sick game, once you start modding it, it truly is a game that is never ending, and seriously very fun, the dragon mount is a blast, there are thousands of mods out there for it, any thing you can think of someone has already made a mod for it.
Oblivion is the game I go to when AH gets to me.
I was checking out the vids for Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, it does look pretty awesome :aok
-
yeah The Chivalry style of multiplayer really fits to me, im thinking of buying oblivion too, soon. i have only played it in my friends' pc. but maybe ill just wait for skyrim, those graphics are better then my imagination can do while playing D&D.... and i DO have a nice video card on my head.
I played Age of Chivalry since its beta version, always a big fan but then i stopped because after a while the comunity that played it got bigger and dummer. really anoying kids and etc. also they had made some maps that were fantasy like. like a place full with lava etc.. wich runined to realistic concept of crusade the story has... but in the videos and screenshots i see on the medieval warfare they are rescuing the best classic maps: battle grounds, woods, villages etc.
-
hmmm...an fps with some real meat to it. cool...have to watch that one.
-
i know the name reminds of modern warfare but dont let that scare you away :salute
-
actually at first glance i thought it was another total war game...and i love total war though the mechanics makes gameplay really repetitive.
haven't even tried mount and blade yet...although that one looks fun too.
i've been wondering for years whether or not an fps based on the civil war would work...something like an fps combined with elements of an rpg, where you control a character and build your skills through battle, start out with a basic musket and bayonet, get weapon upgrades, speed up reloading ability, earn a horse, earn command of a small squad of ai troops similar to the ones in hidden and dangerous...probably would end up being too much of a challenge for the xbox crowd.
-
there was one i used to play that was a fps multiplayer of theusa liberty war, british vs north americans... it was nice. but no special habilities, it was divided in classes. its a for fun game, has a small comunity, not good graphics, its all about the fun and screaming "dont shoot untill you see the white in their eyes!" or "for your homes! for your families!" and then stabing the guy on the face.
some clans would do nice strategies and formation battles, really cool. but when in the battle you better choose the rigth time to reload. it takes a loooong time.

btw those weapons are not accurate at all.
-
i have found a couple of fps's in progress on the theme of civil war for ya
http://www.moddb.com/mods/freedom-for-me <-- this one migth be dead, not sure.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/brothers-war-source <--- this one is on beginning stage, as you can see they are still modeling and stuff.
EDIT: also for those looking for realism and REAL tatic (not superman stuff) fps gameplay there are 2 experiences you should have:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/resistance-liberation --- world war 2 theme
http://www.moddb.com/mods/insurgency ---- well.. you know...

I just can't get into games like Oblivion any more. If it doesn't have any sort of multiplayer aspect, I don't want to bother with it. I like to interact with other people, even if its just playing coop with a friend while shooting the crap over Ventrillo. I was disappointed to see that Skyrim is single-player only as well. At the very least they should build in a two-player co-op mode.
-
i also preffer multi player games, all these games i have talked about, including chivalry, are multiplayer only.

whats cool is Oblivion has a mod that you can turn it into a multiplayer....I cant say how well it works, I have never used it...but I know 100% it is out there.

the mod works like how mercenaries:world in flames multiplayer was, it allows from 1 to 16 players to join your game. you can ether have them assist you or kill eachother repeatedly.
i personally like the kavach mod that restore the city.
Oblivion was stunning. was my first game i got with my ps3. i remember just staring up at the sky for a good 4 minutes mesmerized by the stars and how good the graphics were. the music was also surreal everything added nicely to the world. Oblivion is about 5 years old, and its graphics are a little old. but its a 2006 GOTY winner with graphics that looked like they would come with a game released in 2008.
Bethesda has stated Skyrim will have there brand new graphics engine in it. built from the ground up. and from the video. the graphics look stunning again.
i still remember the first monster to attack me. i was running past this old fort, when suddenly i started to take damage. i couldnt see anything tho. so i kept running. eventually i realized there was an invincible wolf attacking me. i drew my blade and slew it. taking its pelt and meat for sale.
i played oblivion from 2006 allmost nonstop to 2008, when i finally retired it to play another one of Bethesda's hit series: Fallout 3. :salute
