Title: "Kill" markings on nose
Post by: Raptor05121 on June 03, 2011, 12:34:15 PM
This idea comes from flying the B-26. The static livery for it shows lots and lots of painted on bombs to show completed missions.

Obviously there is a panel on most aircraft that are used for squads, why not put another up front showing landed kills (fighter) or landed bomber sorties (bombers).

I tried searching for this, nothing came up so sorry for a repost if so.

obviously taken from a ship, same idea

There is no death in here. When would you start counting? I'm sure I have probably close to half a million kills in 10 years!

Okay, maybe closer to 100,000, but still!

In real life it's a nice little morale booster. In this game you already have other things to boost your morale, including your name in lights, perk points, score pages, etc.

Only if you restart your count every time you die.

Even then it doesn't compare to reality... Here you have nonstop potential enemy targets. In the real war the average US pilot never saw the enemy his entire tour. It was the rare few that actually saw the enemy. The rarer few that saw them more than once!

In here? It would totally clutter all airframes simply due to the unhistorical nature of our gameplay.

according to the histories of the 8th af, most of the luftwaffe, british, japanese and russian fighter and bomber squadrons...you're generalization is b.s.

I don't think it's a bad idea. Maybe make it by week or ToD.

how would it work though? they just magically appear on every single skin that a person wants to use as an overlay? considering the way the skins work, i seriously doubt htc would want to attempt such a thing. besides, as krusty said you get your name in lights when you land successfully...not to mention the scoretard option is built into the roster and on the website...

Your reading and comprehension skill seem to be BS as well, didn't you notice that he said

In the real war the average US pilot never saw the enemy his entire tour.

Also, you mentioned only 1 AF, while there were a total of 16.

Stop attacking people just to attack them, and at least formulate a good counter argument.

Excuse me? Your first words in this thread are insults? Looking at your recent posts it seems to be a theme.

There's a major hole in his "wish" and the way you theoretically implement it. It is not easy to overcome.

Might as well suggest saying a plane has no wings is "nit picking".... It's a rather glaring flaw.

Maybe let them accumulate in streaks. Like if you go 20 or so kills without being killed or captured you get 20 kill marks. Once you die or are captured you go back to zero and start over again.
Still nobody is really going to be able to notice them. I rarely get a good look at the skin my opponent is flying during an engagement much less have time to be impressed by kill marks.

I don't think we need another reason for folks to avoid combat :)

Since you are in your plane you can't see the side of your fuselage to admire your kills, and I gotta believe in the middle of a dogfight you won't be looking at the other guy's kill markings.

If it's that important, get yourself into Photoshop, make yourself a profile of your plane and add kill markings as you see fit.

It does seem like there are a zillion other things to add to the game before this one :)

Good advice.  :D

want me to go through all the u.s. squadrons stationed in europe and the pacific that saw the enemy? if average means "new recruit" true, but not in theater...it would be a more accurate description to say "on average many us pilots never engaged the enemy".

I like it Shifty.  You do that one yourself?

I never got past 109Es.  Only LW bunch I ever GL'd in a scenario.  II/JG54 back in the Airwarrior day.  Love those Emils :)

in thinking, i guess that would make a point, in a fighter.

I'm mostly a BUFF driver and I spend a good 75% of the climb in pos 2 (ball or top), F3 admiring the plane and steering with rudder pedals. It would be cool to see bombs start littering the side of my B-24 with more missions I land.

perhaps only do this for bombers then? just a thought

Yeah I've been doing them for years, and they never quite come out as good as I'd like. I really like your Emil, it's excellant.  :aok
I struggle for a couple of weeks and like I said I'm never satisfied. Then I see something like the 190s Krusty was whipping out for the previous scenario and my jaw drops.
Maybe one of these days I'll get to the level of work like you guys display.
