Title: June 6th, 1944
Post by: redman555 on June 06, 2011, 02:18:44 AM
Today is the anniversary of the day thousands of allied forces lost their lives storming the beaches of Normandy.  R.I.P all lost on this day.   :salute

I can't imagine how awful it must have been to be in the first wave.  After getting soaked and seasick in the Higgins boat, having that ramp fall down and seeing your buddies turned into bits... :(

And in German (think this is it, been a while)
Wunden mein Herz mit eintöniger Mattigkeit.
:salute To all of the brave soldiers, who fought for what they believed in.

My father-in-law, Omaha Beach, this day in history.

His favrite thing is to go bass fishing.  I doubt there's one time he steps into his boat he doesn't think about it.

John C, SGT; Bronze Star, 2 times Purple Heart, wounded again as a medic Huertigen Forest (Second HF Campaign, Feb 1945) and went back to Paris to be Sgt of the Guard at the US Hospital/Paris.
