Title: Need a dinner reservation? Tell em you are a Doctor
Post by: oTRALFZo on June 06, 2011, 04:20:46 PM
For you guys that don't know, I work as a Chef in a restaurant.

I answer the phones and occasionally will take reservation requests(off dining hours of course) but this one struck me as kind of odd.

A woman called wanting to make a reservation and when I asked for the name, she responded with "Dr. so and so". When I repeated her request, I had just written his last name to when she responded in a stern voice " ITS DOCTOR so and so" like saying because he is a doctor ( Which he is a dentist btw..) he is going to receive special treatment or guaranteed the reservation.

I'm thinking I need to make a dentist appointment and tell the receptionist that this is "Chef Fred" and I need to see the dentist.

Next time, tell them the doctor can wait for a table. While the doctor is waiting, he can fill out a 'brief' questionnaire consisting of 15 pages asking how his food was prepared historically and document how he chews his nourishment. Afterwards, inform him that the questionnaire will not be used, he owes $200 for a 10 minute appointment (regardless if ate), and that your professional culinary opinion is the only one that matters.

I would either begin to refer to him as DOCTOR Doe the same way he said it and instruct the rest of the staff to only address him in that manner, or go on a rant over the phone along the lines of "I don't care if you're a flipping (some sort of prestigious title)", or I'd just spit in his food  :D

How about I tell him that the day he wants the reservation, that I'm out on a "convention" and he can page me if his eating conditon worsens.

How bout, after getting them seated, give him a straw and have him hold it under his tongue, walk away and just talk to the cute waitress for 15 min.

Take his reservation and when he shows up on time, have him sit in the waiting room until just before close. Then inform him that his table is ready, but the kitchen has closed, and would he like some bread anyway?

I had a guy insist that I call him Doctor, so I insisted he call me Mister. He was visibly annoyed.
