What exactly is your problem with the nvidia card? Did you use driver cleaner when switching or do clean OS install?
-
I downloaded driver cleaner and it came up with AMD and a list of ATI files should i clean all these out?
It also displayed Nvidia as well should i clean these as well and then install current drivers?
I have been having problems with start up of windows, it reboots everynow and then :cry
I have vista 64 is it advisable to move over to Windows 7?

Yes uninstall all drivers, use the driver cleaner and reinstall nvidia drivers. Reboots could be due to several things, defect card or even underpowered PSU. Or even the drivers.

i hope you have a big 12v leg on that power supply.

Its a Acer predetor gaming pc Aspire g7200 AMD phenom 9750 quad core 2.40 ghz and i know nothing about pcs

zack1234,
if you are able to, switching over to Windows 7 64 bit might be more stable OS for you than your current Vista OS ( Windows 7 is also a lesser resource Hog than Vista I do believe )
also, your Acer System sounds like it is all AMD ( your CPU is AMD< you had an ATI video card, and probably the Northbridge and Southbridge on the MotherBoard is AMD as well )
for a Nvidia VideoCard to perform "Better", your AMD Socket MotherBoard would be better off with Nforce(Nvidia) North and South Bridge chipsets.......... verses using a Nvidia VideoCard on an AMD platform with AMD chipsets..... it might work, but it might also cause you headaches
if you want to invest in a New ATI card..... I would suggest getting a 6850, 6870, 6950, 6970 model preferrably the 6870 or 6970 model
I opted for the XFX 6870 recently instead of the XFX 6970 only because the 6870 model offered 2 cooling fans verses the 1 cooling fan on the current 6970 models from XFX ( the 6870 XFX model also originally came out with a 1 fan design, but they upgraded it on the Black Edition and another similar 6870..it is like the Black Edition model but is not overclocked from factory )
anyhow........ make sure when using that driver cleaner, that you only remove the AMD/ATI video, video sound, HDMI, CCC, etc drivers...... removing any of the MotherBoards other AMD drivers will cause you other major problems maybe.......
hope this helps....... Best of Luck

thanks Tequila for info :salute
I think i will go xfx 6870 this should run on my machine?

i'm betting it has a 400-450 watt power supply...won't be enough power.

I just found the following:
Manufacturer's description :

In addition, a liquid cooling system that guarantees perfect system operation and stability without overheating, even after overclocking, without compromising maximum possible performance.
Superior Gaming Enhancements
Another Predator striking feature is the Acer Easy-swap Hard Drive solution which makes the four Serial ATA 3Gbit/s high capacity hard disks removable even when the PC is turned on and in use. This rapid access and replacement of hard disks transforms the new Acer Aspire PREDATOR into an easily expandable, scalable platform. RAID 0, 1, 1+0 modes with with AMD RAIDXpert technology guarantee the utmost data security in the event of disk failure and allow to easily configure your RAID set up.

my XFX 5750 runs AH and all eye candy like a champ (mid 50's lowest. only seen it low 50's high 40's a very few rare times). thats on a 1600X900 screen resolution and the 1280X920 or whatever the hi res in AH is.

So you're ready to buy a card that is on the same performance level as the 560 you have now? You have money to throw for nothing I guess.
Check the comparison chart http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card-game-performance-radeon-hd-6670,2935-7.html
Are you going to sell the 560 on ebay or something?

Ripley is correct, the ATI HD 6870 is in same class a Nvidia GTX 560 ti.........
My reason for suggesting it comes from him saying he had an ATI originally and upgraded to an Nvidia card, but is unhappy with it........ I was giving him the same performance on the ATI side
I should have stated that, my apologies....... even though they match up near equal on paper, the ATI will perform and look better in some areas, while the Nvidia will look better and perform better in different areas........ all depends on what your personal taste / thirst is quenching for???

Sounds like you did not uninstall/remove the ATI drivers for the ATI card, before you shut the system down and changed the cards over to the New Nvidia card
if you did do this : removed all video drivers before shutting system down to change out Video Cards! and it is causing you problems after you have installed it
and then installed the correct video drivers for the new Nvidia card....... then their might be other issues

Guy in shop put the card in :old:
I downloaded driver sweeper and it came up with lots of ATI stuff, like you said i will have to be careful what i delete :old:
What would you say is safe to remove? i did see the CCC in there, :old:
again your help is appreciated :salute
-
how long has it been since you got the nvidia card? if it's been less than 30 days you should be able to return it (maybe a small restocking fee). 90 days or less you should be able to exchange it, depending on the vendor. you can cite incompatibility issues as the reason. as tc previously stated, in general terms the system would be less problematic with an ati card in it.

zack you senile :old: you should ask your squaddies on vent, some of them are actual PC technicians :x

You will still need to clean out all vid drivers AMD and NIVIDIA just make sure not to uninstall your chipset drivers unless you want to start from scratch or if they have new ones out that you want to replace the older chipset drivers. I'd make sure I knew what I was doing first before just running the cleaner read read and read some more then ask if your still not sure.
-
chipset drivers can be updated? :old:
-
chipset drivers can be updated? :old:
ya if the mobo manufacturer releases an update...just like bios updates.
-
i am running vista 64 bit at present if i installed windows would this benefit my pc and remove old drivers from my system.
I could also install new Chipset drivers :old:
-
YES always go and see if there are new drivers for your MB and use them on a fresh install. This is all drivers Chipset, Vid and sound card all drivers and bios. But make sure you know how to update the bios and never use the bios tools they offer. Read the bios updates and make sure it is fixing a known problem if it's just for new CPU's no reasons unless you have one of the CPU's that were added.
Their are plenty of places to go read the right way to load your system. The right order to load the drivers and what to delete when done loading everything.
-
uh yyyeeeaaaah...i'm not so sure about NOT using the bios upgrade tools provided by the mobo manufacturer...it's best to use the packages provided by the board manufacturer, otherwise you can really muck things up really easily.
zack, something tells me you haven't even tried any of the suggestions so far...you should always start with the simplest and most straight forward way to address an issue...if that doesn't work then explore other avenues. vista 64 with the latest service pack can be really stable and tweaked to run fairly well...there is no reason to go spending money on another operating system when you're not really even sure what is causing the problem.
start with removing the known ati graphics drivers...and check the 12volt output rating on your power supply to make sure it's putting out the correct amperage to run that nvidia card...
-
If you use the tool and something happens glitch in internet your done. I always do it manually. Thats just me first timers may want to use the tool I don't trust them.
-
nobody in their right mind uses an online bios update tool... :O ...where have you seen one of those? you're right that would not be a good thing...download to disc then run is the only way to do it.
-
I had a purge on my pc and deleted lots of nonsense etc
Ran Driver sweeper and it came up with Amd/Ati drivers etc, as been mentioned i will have to be careful what i delete :pray
i am the first to admit i am pc ignorant.
In regards to window 7 i have been told its a better OP than Vista and thought it would kill two birds with one stone as they say :old:
The 12v output i presume can be tested on the second 6 pin plug thats not being used? :old:
-
just look at the label zack...the +12v rating is what you want to look at. that's what the mfg has it rated at, not necessarily what the true output is...however, that 560gtx requires a minimum 24 amps on the +12v leg and it's supposed to be connected to the system using 2 6pin power connectors, not just one.
