CLASH OF THE CARRIERS
This will be an all sea set up interpretation of the Battle of the Phillipine sea
Each side will be in command of 12 task groups.
The objective will be the sinking of ten of 12 of the enemy carriers and to achieve a higher number of enemy kills.
Carriers will be set to not regenerate for the length of the set up and will be hardened to indestructible during the overnight empty arena hours.
Task groups will be player controllable but should they be moved too far from the combat area, an administrator will retake control and move them back.
Terrain: Bigocean
Bishops
Axis: IJN
A6M5
D3A3
B5N
PT Boat
Knights
Allies: USN
F6F
TBM
SBD
PT Boat
Ordinance will be enabled for attack planes only.
Fighters will be guns only.
Should the battle be won outright before weeks end, a new, as yet undetermined set up will be loaded.

SBD time :x
-
what will the ack setting be, and are the bombsights on the TBM and B5N set for manual or "easy mode"?
-
I may reduce the ack settings to 75 or 50%. There will be no computer dive bomb sight. Might leave level bomb site as auto cal.
I want it to be a challenge but not too difficult.
What do you think?
-
Perhaps disable the 5" manned guns? Those usually make approaching an MA CV near suicide before you ever get into drop range.

I'll take a look at that.
-
If you want anyone to have some success using PT boats, then ack will need to be toned down from MA standards in one way or another.
On the bombsights, I think a good middle of the road is auto calibration; but personaly I wont be level bombing if I make it in on this one. Dive bombing a CV is too much fun compaired to level bombing. (anyone besides me notice that the B5N actually makes a decent dive bomber?)
-
LOL, just turn the ack off wouldn't want anyone getting hurt launching a torpedo at my carrier

Yep!

As near as I can tell, one cannot disable the 5" guns by themselves. I could probably manually detonate them one by one, but I'm not doing that for 24 task groups LOL.
All the guns could be disabled which I wouldn't want to do.
Perhaps by setting them all at 50% I can cut the lethality in half, but that would likely affect all the other guns and PT guns as well
So, I don't know what to do about that.
-
Looks like fun, I'll pop in :joystick:

Love the picture devil, nice drop. :aok

It's done in FSOs and SEA all the time.
Just detonate them manually for the carriers in play, and... I dunno sink the rest of the carriers?
-
Krusty,
I had the same question about 5 in gunners, and I accept Jimson's word that manually detonating all the 5 inch guns on 24 fleets...... well......... :bolt: I think that mostly it will be up to the players now to decide how they want to play it. In the MA the puffy ack is a severe nuissance, with adjusted settings, maybe it will be just a severe pain :lol
No matter what is done, I have found that there is always a guy who has laser beam sights and so every adjustment you make possibly creates an opportunity for some other unintended consequence. Hopefully, turning the volume down on the ack will give us better chances.
-
AFAIK you can only disable all the manned guns.
I'll re-evaluate it later. I haven't had the chance to try the set up yet.
-
its all or nothing. you either disable all manned guns or you dont. you can destroy them, but if the carrier is left alone, they will rebuild themselves. you cant just disable 5inch guns, you disable 8 inch and all other manned guns too.
-
Made a few changes. Reset carrier positions. They are not in sight of each other but it's a short flight to reach them.
Also made them so they can't be commanded, don't want them all over the map.
-
These are the last few nights of the carrier battle in AvA.
When you log in, you will be in a corner of the map.
You will need to change to Bishops or Knights and move to one of the carriers in the center of the map.
The enemy carriers don't show on the map but The Axis (Bishops) carriers are to the North of the Allied fleet and The Allied carriers (knights) are to the south of the Axis fleet.
Come on in, find the enemy fleet and sink those flattops! or defend your fleet!!
The carriers are now stationary so they will be easier to find, they are a 2-3 minute flight away.
