You mean they're actually playing something that has to do with history???

Too bad I don't have TV service anymore or I'd join you.  Enjoy!

WWII in HD. Watched the series when it first aired. Been watching it again the last few hours. If you haven't seen it, you should. Great color footage and personal accounts.

Isn't it just black and white and they have imputed color using computer software.  I swear I had already seen half of the footage before in black and white.

The dogs of war; shattered families, mangled bodies, empty stomachs.  Be it communism, facism, democracy, anarchy, or oligarchy; it makes no difference because war, war never changes.

Perhaps, but my opinions differ from yours, and I offered an explaination of your aversion to the scene where the Vietnamese child was suffering.

Been a long time since I have cryed but I just can't keep from it . What these men had to do for me to be free ...
I remember when I was very little , 49 now , My uncle showed me two canteen's full of gold teeth that he got some where over there . He said he take the but of his gun and knock them out . I never forget that . He hid those canteen's in the ground behind his house and died like a year later and we have never been able to find them . I looked for year's with no joy ..I know there there because I seen them but where he hid them I have no clue .I think that's why I am so mean  but after watching this my live is going to change .

first, the child was japanese not vietnamese...the documentary series is called WWII in HD not Vietnam in HD...secondly that was not an explanation it was a poorly attempted and ill timed philosophical statement gleened from other people. undoubtedly you are one of the brighter squeekers around these boards, however you are irritatingly lacking in areas of social interaction that at times make you appear to be a simple minded copy and paste poser with too much time on his hands. i'm sure that on facebook amongst your friends you would get responses along the marks of "wow, that's deep" but here, it is apparent that you are predominantly out of touch with not only reality but the full breadth and scope meaning of the philosophical text you have read elsewhere.

my aversion to the aforementioned clip is due to an ingrained distaste for seeing little children suffer from the shortsighted and selfish whims of grown men.

I can understand that, theres a story in "The Air War" section that gives me the same feelings.

the story about the crippled b17 who has its hydraulics  shot out, so it cant lower the wheels, or pull its ball turret up with 2 engines out.

and it ends with the ball turret gunner being crushed under the weight of the bomber as it belly slides in.

just the way they told it, the narrators voice of sorrow, the sirens in the background, and the way The presidents speech said "they will need thy blessings, for there road will be long and harsh..." as the bomber crashed down and the Ball turret is seen collapsing. that part always got to me.

I believe the color film in this is authentic, because there are some portions shot in black and white

Oops, I thought for sure that the kid was Vietnamese, it must be from another clip I watched.  You're right, though, looking back on that post, I can see that messed it up badly. :lol  Just now, I noticed that the part about the cause making no difference came from Ghandi; man, I need to lay off the Wikipedia for a while.  :)

You're right about the being out of touch and lack of social skills part, too.  I barely leave my house and have few, if any friends.  This forum is a place where I can test my (rather weak) intellectual mettle, though.

Dang, you old dogs are smarter than you look.

However, I do not copy and paste.  I do read about ethics, psychology, sociology, and philosophy, and it unfortunately comes out in my work.  I try hard not to use others' ideas, but with so many ideas bouncing around in my head it gets hard to see the difference between what I've read and what I've thought up.

Let me rephrase my previous post:

The horrors of war: shattered families, mangled minds, empty stomachs.  No more than pawns in the ever-shifting struggle for power, those caught in the crossfire are long-forgotten.

I can't find anything unoriginal there, but correct me if I'm wrong.

*sigh* penguin, have you considered therapy?

rather than trying to portray yourself as some pre-pubescent internet plato or socrates go read something like the art of war. and please, stop trying to bedazzle people who are far better read, educated and experienced than yourself with your wisdom as it falls far short of your intent. you will garner more respect if you heed that than you will by continuing down your current path.

not to get involved between you 2, but is internet respect over a game forum where half of us will never meet eachother really worth caring about?  :headscratch:

Been there, done that.  I never considered that I was portraying myself in that way.  Sure, I'll read the Art of War if I can dig up a copy.  Any passages in particular?

oh confused young philosopher in waiting, read the entire book penguin...if you can find a copy...it's not light reading by any means, however to simply scan over the text and attempt to pick out random passages is tantamount to not reading it at all.

judging by the plethora of silliness you continually post...it's a concept that is over your head.

By "any passages in particular", I meant: Are there any passages that I should spend more time dissecting and re-reading?  Of course I'd read the whole book, but I don't want to miss anything that isn't immediately noticable.

penguin, don't over think it...just do. going in looking for something is like going into the forest looking for a particular flower...you may eventually find it but you will have missed the fact that there is an entire forest around you.

no doubt...that camera better have at least a 30 cal machine gun attached to it if someone plans on handing it to me and sending me into those combat zones.
