I'm hearing that nobody was hurt! This pretty much makes everyone behind that barrier joint luckest people in the world?

Any news on the driver?
-
he's ok
-
pretty nasty looking. loked like the audi thought he had a space to make the pass, and went in a lil too deep, whilst the other guy came in on him too......either way....good that no one got hurt.
-
OMG what Lucky Reporters Look at the wheel with broken axe
-
he's ok
Good to hear , thanks
-
wow, im sorry, but what was that? a little bump and it looked like the car's axis bent.
those toy F1 cars make nascars plastic look tough. :uhoh
-
audi almost had another fatal crash, but on the rundown from mulsane headed to indianapolis

Dear mother of God :pray now that's a miracle how that barrier caught the car when it was flying over.

on topic. Luckiest people alive.
dont wanna make a joke about it, but that camera guy was runnin from the wheel :lol
-
Amazing the safety technology that goes into those cars. To be thrashed that badly, and yet the cockpit is still completely intact.

if its anything like F! the car is made to disentigrate (sp). the frame and cosmetics and other parts take the heat in safety of the driver. the drivers more then likely have a HANNS device (NASCAR does...LeMans better).

Being a closed cockpit, and more mass to the car, I'd imagine it's a bit safer then F1.
But yea, speaking of F1, remember Webber's pretty little back flip at Valencia last year, I'm amazed he walked away from that one too.

musta been the one or two races i missed. and i havent seen any this year. :cry
-
Really glad to see McNish and the stewards and press folks walk away from that one. Had the potential to be catastrophic on a massive level.
-
you can see the Hans device on the driver as he exits the car also noticed his driving suit seemed a little ummm soiled :o
-
didnt watch him exiting the car. was across the house doin something
-

LOL, i saw that too. There is another reporter that stood next to the wall when that same wheel roll behind him/her. S/he never notice it till it hit the wall on the other side of him/her.
-

All your missing this year is Sebastian Vettel's absolute domination. His last win at Monaco was pure luck though, Button was reeling him in at like 2-3 seconds a lap, when he was saved by a red flag.

i can't tell you how many races i've seen won/lost due to luck. it seems more than are won/lost by skill sometimes.

It sure could have went over but it just hung on the top of the barrier. Miracle indeed. May need to rais the height on those barriers.

Come on now ... It takes great skill to run a complete and clean race and to put yourself in a position at the end of a race to win regardless of the circumstances or variables that change as a race progresses. It is not only driver skill, it is also pit crew skill and tactics that wins a race.

Did you notice that he actually hit something before the barrier wall that actually launched him into the air. Whatever that was, is what needs to be looked at ... and removed if possible.

I didn't till you pointed it out. Trying to frame be frame with my phone and it looks like he hits a section of the rail thats angled to a point towards the track. Looked like some sort of green guard on it. Hard to tell.
And what does schizer mean in German?? :D

skill to get one to the end of the race.....but often times luck that the other guy happens to make a mistake, which is often the only chance one has of taking the checkered.......and that is so much more exciting than watching somoene just walk away from the pack.....

if you look closely there is a ramp like effect coming off that gravel since it wasn't level with it

Here is a big crash in the Australian V8 racing championship from a few weeks ago:

Wasn't there a thread a while back questioning why we bother to race? Take one good look at this crash and then realize that the technology that allowed these drivers to walk away WILL be incorporated into your road car someday. The materials used in these cars are not only far lighter than your average family sedan but they are stronger too. Imagine being able to build a road car with this technology at a reasonable price point. not only would you have safer cars but the weight savings would do wonders for your fuel economy.
MOAR RACING!
-
Great, just what we need on the roads, more people that think they are invincible because of all the safety features built into the cars.

You could say the same thing about ABS, air bags and seat belts.... I don't think many people go around saying "To hell with safe driving, I'VE GOT AIRBAGS!!!!! WOOOOOO!"

yea....i was kinda thinking that. the driver walked away from a crash that was 10 times worse than crashes on the street.........and that same crash in a 60's vintage car....or as penguin likes to call them....... a legacy car.......would prove fatal.
-

no, they don't go around saying that....but they do relax because their airbags, or abs, or whatever, will save them. :noid

Le Mans has a rather sad tradition of cars and associated bits flying over the fence.

Since no one else has said it so far......
  :banana:WTFG CORVETTE!!!!

Way to show Ferrari, BMW, Aston, Porsche, and Lotus who the BIG DOG is!!!
:rock

That is one sexy looking car, vettes have improved in looks every new year.
-
Yes, they do keep getting better and better.
Funny thing about the 74 Corvette winning GT Pro was that it was the slower of the two Corvettes, and came from a lap down with just over 2 hours felt to win. The 73 Corvette was actually DOMINATING GT Pro for most of the race til it was taken out by a Porsche that it was in the process of putting another lap down.
Woulda' been nice to see a Corvette 1-2 finish in GT Pro.
We'll take First Place by itself, though. :D
-
till this current gen corvette, and the one just before......the last good looking vette(in my opinion) was the 69.
if i were gonna buy a chevy right now, for anything other than utility.....it'd be a vette.
and yes......glad to see an american ride show the way. :aok
-
Rocky's crash was the bigger impact, don't think the GT Amateur class can survive as is after the two wrecks with the Audis. BTW a Vette won the GT Amateur class also.

not a Vette fan, too popular. not a Chevy fan either....but a Vette taking wins in 2 classes, impressive.
if Chevy would enter into the F1A....maybe i would sway my mind.

i think you guys already know i'm a ford nut.....but since ford isn't entering into these races....then i'll root for the next best, which is chevy. :aok

i thought they used to run the viper, but dunno if they still have anything in there.
it'd be cool to see them and ford put something in there though. just to stir things up a bit.

Well actually Robertson Racing Teams 5.0L V8 Ford GT-R Mk. VII finished 26th overall and 2nd place in (am LMGTE Class) at the 24 hours of Le Mans and Pratt & Miller Engineering aka (Covette Racing) C6.R 5.5L V8 finished in 11th overall, and took 1st (pro LMGTE) Class and ( Larbre Competition) took 1st in the (am LMGTE class). i always like to watch Ford and Chevy compete at Le Mans, Chevy still rules the day between them at Le Mans.
edited to show Larbe Competition took 1st in (am LMGTE) class
-
hes running in this season?
He was listed LM GTE Am ...

ORECA Matmut use to run the Dodges but i believe they were labeled as Chryslers, was still a Viper at the end of the day and that was years ago. I didn't see a Viper on the spotters guide this year and don't remember the last time i did see one on it for Le Mans or the ALMS.

I see the Robertson Racing LLC Ford GT-R finishing 3rd in it's class ... behind the Larbre Competition Porsche 911 RSR (997) and then the Larbre Larbre Competition Chevy Corvette C6 Z.
-
ahhh your right i missed the second place Porsche good catch :aok i should of been more specific on the two Corvette teams, i was referring to how well the C6.R's did, sorry for the confusion :bhead
-
The Corvettes taking 1st place in both the GTE Pro and the GTE Am is HUGE !!!
Corvettes would have finished 1st and 2nd in GTE Pro had the #74 Corvette, which was currently running 1st, not gotten into a crash with a Porsche. With the #74 Corvette out, the #73 Corvette had to make up 1 lap, with 6 hours remaining, before taking the win.

You have a point, it seems that I've underestimated the value of racing. It makes cars safer for the rest of us. On the other hand I've called 60s cars legacy cars? If you would show me the quote, I'll :rofl

It is a tragedy that Ford didn't put some factory GT's together. You build a car with racing heritage and then don't race it??? Bah!
-
Not interested in racing or cars at all but Le Mans is the exception to the rule :) I sat there for 24 hours straight watching these sexy machines just hoping for a miracle and that the Oreca or Pescarolo cars would LMP1 and LMP2 " :D
Yup 24 hours straight with the missus serving me refreshments :)
