Title: Map Change by demand

Like most others in Aces High,  I love some maps and hate others.

I wish there were a way to vote for a map change in game and say a large enough % of players currently in the arena have voted to change the map it would force the map to change to the next one in rotation.  Of course there would neeed to be a limit on how often the map is allowed to change.

I for one would stop feeling stuck in certain maps if I knew I'd done my part to change the situation.

You may end up with Rooks & Bish voting  for a new map just to prevent an imminent Knight arena win. (Country names assigned randomly, it's just an example.) If you now say "X%  votes of each country" would be necessary: That's easy to skew during offpeak, low numbers hours as well.
To prevent complete staleness, I simply suggest the reintroduction of the weekly reset by Skuzzy.

I used to think that I hated having two arenas.  Now I realize that I just dislike the idea of giving them capacities.

couldn't it be implemented in a way, that it wouldn't change if one side is a certain percentage of winning the war :headscratch:

I really like this idea the map that was  up last night and I am sure is up now, it looks awesome, but its very limiting, first time I ever said to my self this map sux, absolutely no disrespect to the map maker, I tried to make a map,  HUGE kudo's to the guys that do them, but the lay out just leaves much to be desired, I would vote in a hart beat to get rid of it.  just too many damn mountains :bhead

See this is what happens in the evolution of a player.

First, player joins the horde to gain knowledge, and protection.

Hordes take bases. Player learns limited strategies, how to attack certain bases due to spawns or terrain.

After awhile the player learns all the maps weaknesses and the best missions for which base captures. The game becomes routine.

Player expands, learns to fight and finds that air combat can never be completely learned or mastered in the MA due to all of the changing numbers angles people attack from.



Basically having a "map change" set-up isn't going to help because you know the next map as well as the one your "stuck" on. It too will have those same old hot spots, or bad spots depending on how you look at them.

I like the idea of a weekly and RANDOM map set, perhaps with a window of 5-7 days.

I would like to see HTC depart from the idea that maps must be symmetrical between all three sides.

Allowing maps that are not all equal might provide for an interesting dynamic to the fighting.  So one side may have an advantage to begin with occaisionally.  But the way the maps rotate with the countries rotating positions, what does it really matter?  Everyone would have their turn at the strong and the weak positions.

Besides, isn't the end goal of the maps simply to create the opportunity for combat? 

Breaking from the idea that everything has to start equal might make map making an easier as well.

The biggest problem with the map system is that it is so difficult to create a map that meets the balance requirements (among other things) that there are so very few people willing to engage in the task.

Maybe HTC should put some serious effort into the map editor to make it more user friendly.

Just some thoughts...

there is ONe thing that could be done to the TE that would make it 100% easier to use, allow the edit window to scroll out to at least 150 miles instead of like 15 or what ever it is.

Nothing stopping you guys from making and submitting a new MA map.  It's been done before :)

Should not have to. Maps are not the responsibility of the players. The company who is paid should provide them. If players want to create them then great but it should not only be them doing the work.

And? Like I said should not be the responsibility of the players to create new maps. You are missing the point I understand they don't just magically appear but they should appear (created by HTC) more than they are now IMO. I should not feel like I have to take the bull by the horns to get a new map.

There are over 10 maps now. Nowhere does it say that the company MUST provide MORE maps. When you pay your subscription, what you see is what you get.

Anything extra is not expected, but "extra". So if you want a new map, make it. If your not happy with the selection you have and don't want to make a map, cancel your subscription.

The terrain changes automatically after 7 days if the war has not been won.

That is not true with video games. When you pay for a monthly subscription you expect development which has been provided except really in the map department.

have to wonder what subscription based video games you have experience with...you can "expect" anything you want, what the company does is not up to you unless they specifically ask for feedback. when the development company provides a free tool to the subscribers to create additional items (i.e. terrain and skin editor) it is then up to the subscribers to create anything additional that those tools are capable of creating and following the t.o.u. for inclusion by the company, until such time as the company may add such items of thier own creation.

It strikes me that HTC could create some new excitement within the AH community simply by putting out an occaisional unique map. 

What do you think the response would be if there was a new map with the next release that included winter terrain...  Or desert terrain...

People would love it, it would be new and fresh for awhile.

I personally think that HTC is missing an opportunity to occaisional breath new life into the community by not occaisionally putting out unique maps.  Just my opinion.

Yes, but Grinder didn't look any different then the rest of the maps really.  I'm saying, if they were to release a winter map for instance, it would garner a lot of interest. 

To be honest, I would have preferred a new map over the C47 rework.

Desert maps with few trees and rugged terrain with rolling hills would be a HUGE attention grabber for me.  A winter map, especially something from the Ost Front, would also be a major attention grabber.

There are so many really neat desert and winter skins for the aircraft and gv's it is a shame we cant match them to the terrain.  If we can do it in the SEA's, then why not the MA?  On that note, why cant someone take the maps that are used in the SEA's and strategically place airfields around them so that they could be used in the MA?  The Karelia and Tunisia terrains would be great to have in the MA!!!

Because there are more restrictions to what you can customize on maps destined for the Main Arenas.  Not the least of which is landmass/base equity between all three sides.  You don't need to do that with AvA and SEA maps, which I believe typically are made for two sides.
