that nascar sucks, and if you want to watch any exciting racing, the continental tire challenge is where it's at.
these guys drive the friggin wheels off of these cars, and it's VERY easy to tell what you're looking at with a mere glimpse of the car. then actually turn in both directions, with elevation changes too.
but i'm also confused about something. namely the fords. you know...the ones everyone says are still in the stone ages, with their live rear axles, while even the lowly kia is running(i think) an independent rear suspension.
what gives? how can a dinosaur of a car not only compete with a full field of irs cars, but take the win(today at watkins glen) over a field of cars that are supposedly superior to it? not only taking the win, but i believe there were at least 3 other mustangs in the top ten. not too bad for a car with a "big whacking girder" for a rear suspension.
gotta admit though....it was good to see the lone american car in the field perform so well against a multitude of foreign cars in a type of race that is supposed to be their domain.
so far for this series this year.......bmw 3 wins, now ford 3 wins. :aok
i thought that the corvette was being run in this series, but i didn't see any today.......would've been good to see 2 american cars running.......
-
you gotta give it to them nascar boys, they sure can do one hell of a left turn
-
that nascar sucks,
Understatement of the year award goes to... CAP1! Congrats CAP!
-
It be cool to go to the track but TV noooo ..
-
Its boring unless your there, or unless there's a crash which god forbid anyone gets hurt.

if they bring any of the races to milleville, i may go...that's only about 40 miles from me........
-
i quit watching nascar when whatever ruling body of numbskulls decided to start nerfing the essence of nascar and turned it into the crap it is today...
-
The F1 Canadian GP was a pretty exciting race today as well.
It proved at least that Schumi still has great skill in the rain.
And Button coming from 21st on lap 39, for the win on Lap 70. :O

wish like hell they'd put it back to the way it used to be.
BTW...anyone know where i can buy a v-8 camry? :devil

But did any other racing originate from outracing the cops while smuggling? I don't think so.

I have to admit that I'm really impressed how the new Mustangs with the rear girder do. I think it's a lot like the Chevy push-rod V8's. Sometimes that old technology has some life left in it well beyond the point where everyone else has written it off. It does have the advantage of being simple and reliable and man will they hook up when you put the power down.

one thing i noted at the end of yesterdays race.
2 full course cautions at the end. taylor(i think) in a camaro was second, and the jack roush stang in the front. leading up to those cautions, that particular camaro seemed to be the only one out there that was able to pull away from the pack, and try to run the stang down.
now, comes the caution for debris on the track. drivers and teams do what they think they need to do, some fueling up, etc.....both of the leaders till that point were worried about gas. no more.
on the restart, the camaro had let a little space between the stang driver and himself....like he was gonna try to get a run on him at the first turn. green comes out, he tries, with no success. the roush stang pretty much just walked away from him.
then another quick caution. field bunches up again, but this time, the camaro driver tries it differently. he glues himself to the back of the stang driver. green drops again, camaro driver allllllmost gets a run in the first turn. but rather amazingly, the stang driver not only has better straight line performance, but he manages to show better performance in the turns too. and once again, he pretty much walked away from the pack at will.
i was looking, but couldn't find info on what engine the camaros are running in the races. are they using the 6.2L in this series?

i missed it :cry along with all the other races. hows Schumi doin since his return?

it was/is rare that i'm inside long enough to watch any races anymore, but with this venous ulcer on my ankle......i've been staying off my feet whenever i don't absolutely need to be on them, till it heals again. thus, i was channel surfing.
what would be neat, would be if dodge were to try to get the challenger back into this series, so we could see ford/chevy/dodge battles like they used to get to see in the past.
still though.....ford3, bmw3.....gonna be sure to watch the race at road america now. the comentators were saying something about chevy being allowed to change something on their spoiler, letting that car get closer to the mustang.
i got a feeling that it's gonna soon be all fords, and chevys in the top spots....which will be fun to watch........it's a shame that that there's only gonna be one american car at that point though.

I think CAP likes Fords :old:
-
I wish you'd watched that Canadian F1 GP last sunday ... E P I C ... Yet open wheel ain't really my thing.
-
i watch them sometimes. it's truly amazing how they do so much with such small engines, and how they manage to glue those dam things to the track the way they do.
the biggest thing i like about the continental tire challenge, is that it seems to be the equivalent of the old trans am series, and the cars look exactly like the one you or i could buy at the dealer.
and dedalos.....what gives ya that idea? :devil
-
You may also want to follow the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.
It has Riley cars powered by Ford and Chevy ...

And a Chevy powered Coyote ...

Also there are Camaro GT.Rs running along with Corvettes.
-
but you missed what was/is a large part of what i enjoyed about that race.....i could id those cars. the mustangs looked like....well......mustangs. the camaros also looked like camaros. so on and so forth.
the only ones i had trouble id'ing, were the rice burners, but that's because i'm not into them anyway. people that are though, could easily do so.
and speaking of rice burners.......it seemed awfully strange to see kia racing. :noid

that nascar sucks
Negative.

If you go into Alabama and say that Nascar sucks you will get shot, Incase you didn't watch that Top gear :rofl
-
Only way to do NASCAR is in a suite with pit passes. Other wise its hot, noisy and you get showered with rubber.

ill still say it. may i ask... in comparison to open wheel racing, what is the challenge in NASCAR? by no means could i run NASCAR, but its so simple in comparison to LeMans or Formula 1. F1 drivers are adjusting downforce as they go from their steering wheel... like to see NASCAR do that...
-
Uploaded just for you my little CAPY, Miller Motorsport Park couple of months ago. You can probably recon each car if you pause in HD. The loudest one in the leads is the Caddy, almost like the old Panoz loud. Various classes at once is fun show.

People down south like things simple? Thats the reason the people up north call us slow. We like things simple but with a twist of loud sounds filled in by powerful engines.

the continental tire challenge racing should fit right in.
simple cars, going fast, making lots of noise, and being not too much more than the car you buy from the showroom......oohh...wait.... .fuel injection. never mind. :devil

Why can't NASCAR just copy the V8 Supercar format found in Australia, and ditch the ovals for more road courses.
Imagine this:
4-door format
Chrysler 300C vs GM CTS vs Ford Taurus
2-door format
Chrysler Challenger vs GM Camaro vs Ford Mustang :x

chrysler has a LOT of stepping up to do, to even stay on the same track as the others.

makes two, but i dont like monotony. watching a dog chase its tail is only fun when he runs into something :aok

found a few pics.....
ford leading a pack of foreign cars,.....
these guys were the two fastest mustangs up there....61(red) is the jack roush car, the mustard colored one, i think is the 15 multimatic car/ford racing car....

the 62 car in this pic was the most competitive camaro. the #6 was in the lead for awhile, but couldn't make it on gas. the mustangs, did. so for the record....faster, and use less gas.
and of course, a ford right where they belong, just like the last time the boss302 was built. :aok

Yeah, we definitely have it better than you guys in that regard.
Check out the first lap of our best race of the year (from last year).
Bathurst is one of my favourite days of the year... beers all day, bbq and the race... Nothin' beats it.
