Has anyone else on here noticed the chinese are building up a navy?

I saw where they plan on having four CV's.

In 1811, a smart man went to London, in 1911, a smart man went to New York City, in 2011, a smart man will go to Beijing.

I pay no allegience but to myself.

What qualities of China in 2011 would make it so much more attractive to a smart man than the United States. Despite it's rapid economic growth, it's quality of life is very low compared to the US. It all depends on what constitutes a smart man, which is extremely subjective.

The single greatest threat to America is from within and will deal with monetary policy. All else falls second place. Within 5 years the US will adopt some version of the gold standard, which is goog; and, the US dollar will no longer be the sole international reserve currency. When this happens, again within 5 years, we will see some very big changes.

When this comes we will either head back to a market driven economy or give in to our lazy streak and continue down the road of the nanny state. Monetary policy will enable this. If we choose the former the Chinese can build 100 CVs and it won't matter a spit. If we go the latter the Chinese can build 4 and it will seem overwhelming.

Not a violation of Rule 14, just say'n.

Not sure who'd want to willingly live in china?  Despite a growing economy and an expanding military, they are a communist country.  Forget the basic freedoms you have now.  Heck, you can't even search Google without them filtering out what they don't like.

They are based off the Kusnetsov if I remember the name correctly. As for the quality of work I only know that parts for it may be hard to replicTe in enough quantity with good enough tolerances to actually work right and long enough to support a blue water force. Imagine if you will a US Navy cvn being towed back to port from a fee hundred miles away because the bearings on the prop wearing out and not being able to fit on the replacement. YES I know you can't replace those at sea but it's just an example.

No, no, too beaucoup... I think first they're going to love Taiwan long time. After that, they might extend their reach, assuming, of course, that they don't have to stop their voyage every so often to get out and row circles around the CV.

Okay, for the record, neither I nor anyone I know thinks Chinese people actually do this. It's just an innocent caricature of that old thing we used to do in youth to switch drivers.

No, this is accurate - money is the sinew of war.

I would differ, though, by suggesting that the fiscal policy is going to be mor esignificant - and will drive the monetary policy. I.e., if we continue on a deficit track fiscally, the logical monetary alternative to enable it is inflationary (hidden tax revenue, if you like). OTOH, get the fiscal house in order and we need no such monetary sleight of hand. That's near term. We know that if the former case obtains, it'll only last so long.
