Title: Lookie what I found
Post by: dkff49 on June 15, 2011, 06:12:38 PM
I found this on the way home. It's just sitting along the highway.

I have seen Higgins Boats at this same location too. I'm not really sure where this guy finds this stuff but I might just take a trip up there during the day sometime and see if I can't get another look at her. I'm not sure if this guy has this up for sale or is just restoring it. He does sell large equipment there and all of it is used and much of it is old too. Either way I thought it unusual to see it sitting along the highway.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that one of the movie replica Tigers?  Cool to see.

Not sure of that. I didn't get any closer than you see here since I didn't want to get nailed for trespassing. If you are going off the fact that you can see light between the turret and the main body, the turret is being held up by some blocking. Like I said though I would like to talk to the guy that runs the place though, since it seems that he has WWII era equipment there fairly often (even if they are replicas, which I am not sure either way) like the Higgins Boats that were there a few years ago.

No it's not probably a fake.  it's a fake.  If you can't tell why, I suggest a book with photos of Tiger Is :)

There are 6 surviving Tiger Is.  None in the US. Two in Russia, two in England, two in France.

Your comment was 'probably fake", implying it might be real.  It isn't.

Wow that's one of the most unnecessarily arrogant comments I've ever read.  It's one thing that you know your stuff but it's another to rub it in everyone's faces.  Please give me a moment to beg for your mercy while bowing down to your supreme presence, oh mighty one!

:headscratch:     seemed like a normal, intelligent post without so much as a hint of arrogance.   the man was simply pointing out the facts.

     Nice T-34/85  :aok

Easy peezy Lthunderpocket...check the road wheels and the nose.

T-34/85 doesn't have interlocking road wheels...

The Tiger I sure does...

P.S. This is Bovington's Tiger..it's real.

Erzatz Tiger...from saving Private Ryan..notice the shorter nose and road wheels.

Since it's in hanover, it's probably the same Tiger they show from time to time at Reading.  I saw that one from
about 5 foot away.  If it has a chuck out of one of the roadwheels on the right side and the turret hatch is decorative
plaster/concrete/zimmerit it's probably the same tank.

Nah, no mercy.  off with your head!

I posted it was a fake.  The reply right after mine by our man Thunderpocket was, 'It's probably a fake".  Since it is a fake and there is no doubt,  I responded again.  If that's arrogant, then you'll have to live with it :)

For the record here. It is much closer to Dillsburg than Hanover. It may be the same one at WWII weekend though, I really wouldn't know since They were not open for me to ask.

I really didn't take that close of a look to see if it was real or not. My untrained eye would not have ever caught the differences in it.

Personally I don't care if it is real or not, I thought it pretty cool to see it sitting along the highway that I had to stop and take a pic and share with all. This thing still took a great deal of time to make this way and since (according to Guppy) there are no real specimens in the US then this is probably going to be as close as I can get.

No matter what it was a nice to see and I will still likely stop and see if I can get a closer look if time ever permits.

Haxxor, it's still a tank on the road..very cool  :aok

I'll never forget seeing one of these actually running on a road <not on a transporter>.  It was coming up over a hill
so you saw the back of the turret first...then it just kept getting bigger!  The turret was pointed aft as in this picture...
apparently for road travel.  Turns out they were moving it from one National Guard armory to another.
