Howdy all, I was at an estate auction today and I spotted an old charcoal grill. The kind that Dad used to cook on back in the 60s.
You see these old grills from time to time at the auctions, but they were usually built cheaply and did not last for very long. When you find one it’s usually too far gone to even think about cooking on it. But this one was different. The pan is heavy gauge steel. The cooking surface is a single strand of stainless, wrapped in a spiral pattern. And then there are the wheels… Real steel wheels with rubber tires. Not those cheap plastic ones you usually find.
So with thoughts of Fathers Day approaching, I began to think about recreating an old fashioned cookout. So, I waited for the grill to be sold… Certain that everyone else had the same idea… I calmed my nerves, and readied myself for the bidding war that certainly lay ahead… (Pause for effect) ... (Seriously, you should hear suspenseful music at this point!)… When it was finally offered, I was the only bidder, and bought it for a dollar.
The pictures were taken after a quick cleaning.

This Fathers Day weekend, I’m going to buy some long neck bottles of beer, fire up the old grill, and lift a cold one to the memory of Dad.
CHEERS!
