Title: Making Holes
Post by: ToeTag on June 18, 2011, 09:32:54 AM
I know it has been brought up before but....

Instead of killing hangers, kill the runway.

Maybe once a certain percentage of the surface has been damaged and 20,000lb of ord is dropped on it it becomes inop.

I think this would encourage full load out release from bombers instead of the precision bombing in game.  It would encourage more people to fly some of the hanger queen's with the large light load outs , strategically and in tandem with the heavy hitters that people tend to fly more often.  It will also help teach people to use the "." commands for bombing.

Planes could still spawn from the hanger they just couldn't spawn on the runway.  This I think would kill the "vulch the runway" whiners.

It would be harder to capture a base but easier the cap.  I think this adds a little more realisim to the field capture as well.

-1  Like it's not easy enough to cap a base

My very first bomb run. Think I was just out of my two week trial period.  This was back when calibrating the bomb sight was more of a challenge. I laid a pretty row of bombs down the runway of an enemy base and returned home knowing I had shutdown that airfield for a while.
Oh well. stupid is as stupid does.

WAYYY back a couple yrs ago, you could actually destroy the runway. (think it took about 30,000lbs of ordance)

but then Hitech took it out.

A guy I flew with when I first started would take a 24 with the 100lbers and drop the length of a runway to kill uppers.  Didn't work well except the one instance he dropped on a mission just as it spawned.  Classic Win.  He was in JG44, can't put my finger on his name.  Maybe Racdogg or geepel remember.  I think it was bmbrpuke, or something similar.

Who needs a runway to take off anyway?

False.  You have never been able to kill the runway.

Not sure if it was early AH or in WB, but I do recall a time when you had to be careful rolling across bomb craters or you'd break your landing gear.

you sure about this?

i never bombed the runway myself, but i do remember the runway being on the hardness list of structures, and people talking of the runway being able to be destroyed back in 06-07 i think.

It may have been in the settings, but if so it was never enabled in the MA.

Early in AH if you rolled over a bomb crater it would rip the gear off so yes, technically bombers could shut down a runway.  It happened to me on several occasions.  That capability was quickly removed from the game.

I wouldn't have any problem with that especially since you can f3 when on the ground and should be able to see the craters.

Doesn't help much when the bomb craters are on the spawn points themselves.

I actually think it is easier to "Dive On" a plane coming out of the Hangar than it is to do on the runway...prob cuz that runway can jump up and whack ya in the face if yer not careful...see more planes fly into and out of the ground when its grass then when they dive into the concrete lol...

+1 Semp

Well if you can only up from the hanger you make vulching less appealing to both sides when you know, with out a doubt, that your going to die when you spawn.  I'm not saying take away spawns all together if runways are destroyed but make the dummies think twice about doing it.

So in basic terms flip the horde from fighters looking for an easy kill to bombers looking to take a base.  Fighters would provide more cover and less cap/vulch role after the runways are detroyed.  SO in short take away the hum drum stale play and mix it up.
