Been flying the KI-84 the last few nights. Fun airplane to fly. Very good in the vertical but doesn't like to dive at all. Starts groaning at about 400 and then good bye ailerons soon after.
I don't know how long the current KI-84 has been on the game but the cockpit is rather cartoonish. Still, I do like this airplane.

It is the same age as the B-24 and T-34. These three were the first of the "new" level of quality.
I have heard this comment more than once. I don't see it. Aside from a polygon canopy frame shape, it's not lacking in detail or quality.
Check a P-40E or a Hurricane or a Boston III or B-26 to see really early models. Those definitely look more cartoonish.

Give HiTech time. They will upgrade it just like they have done with others.

Well the boston III isn't THAT old, I can remember its introduction to the game with the A20. The B26 & Lancaster are very old school, so is their damage model.
I suggest hijacking this thread in "the B26 damage model is BS compared to other twin engine planes"

I fly the Ki-84 a ton, while I agree it doesn't have all the nice little things the Zero does now, it still looks pretty good.
IMO the Ki-61 and Ki-67 need the face lift a little more.

I was not intending to be critical of HTC or their time table. It is a wishlist after all.

They are both older than the Ki-84 though. They are AH1 models added during AH1. The Ki-84, along with the B-24 and T-34/76, was in the first batch of AH2 standard models with moving cockpit controls and wheel wells for the gear.
