Title: offline drone flight paths
Post by: ML52 on June 22, 2011, 09:37:09 AM
Something that might help those of us trying to improve our gunnery would be differing flight paths for the offline drones. What I have in mind is; a different path at different fields. Keep the circular path at A1, the next field would have a path that looks like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, four corners separated by two long and two short straights, the next field would have a path shaped like a capital D. Another possibility could be stepped up altitudes for each drone say one thousand feet between each with the drones flying an opposite flight path. Not sure how hard this would be to do but it would sure help me.

+1  I'm for anything that will improve the usefullness of those offline Drones.  I was a help when it was changed to allow us to select the type of drone we wanted. But changing the flight path would be nice.

I'm surprised someone didn't mention Offline Missions, which can be a pain to do (well for me since I tend to get into details about a mission that would drive me nuts :bhead).  badhorse is right though.  Really was a help when they allowed you to change the drone types.  In a way, maybe they could modify it to where you can set the drones to fly by use of way-points like on the CV's?  Just slap them under the Task Group Manager?  The issue would be the coading for this, but it's just a basic idea.

+1 on the idea though. :aok

+1000  :aok

along with what Volron said when you set the flight path you could also choose an altitude or if its a bomber formations

Too bad you cannot set a left, right, or vertical break manuver point with a distance of 800, 600, 400 or 200 yards initiation point from your attacking location to the drone.

Most of us in the MA dive at a con which subsiquently breaks hard left, right, or pulls up to force an over shoot. We all shoot very well dead 6 level. Most players have no clue how to compute lead for any of these three basic evations co-alt or other wise.

Roughly a 100mph ring = 120mil at 200 yards. Airplane at 100mph will travel left to right 120mil at 200 yards in front of you in .254 seconds. So when you dive at a con who is scrubbing speed to about 200-250 while makeing a sharp turn while you are closing from 800yd to 200yd your lead will be about 2.5-3 rings, 1 second burst allowing for your con to fly through your bullet stream.

Orrrr, why not just be able to tell a drone when to break and you practice shooting it until you understand how the graticule ring diameter is related to lead timing. Or for some your wind screen frame.

Oooopsy, sorry, this is the secret to picking and vluching. But, didn't you ever wonder why the better sticks in the game seem to always hit you no matter how tight you pulled left or right to evade them? They shoot where you will be in the next .12, .25, .5 seconds. Those locations are very predictable with experience or understanding of lead.

Maybe it would help if we were able to actually see the drones die as the *real* planes (ones that we actually fight
in-game)? instead of either a) rolling over until they hit the ground or b) exploding with no trace of anything happening, maybe drones could eventually

- lose altitude if they lose one/both elevators
- slowly begin to roll to one side if they lose aileron(s)
- have engines cut out if you hole every fuel tank
- have engines cut out if you hit the fuel
-if you shoot off a wing, as i have done before, they could actually fall out of the sky, instead of continuing to um...fly??

just ideas

i dont know if this is on topic, but is it actually possible to join any of the offline drones?

You can send a join message to the drones but I doubt that they will respond to it.  :D

I hope you guys are attacking the drones from every angle and not just flying behind them.

How about have the drones fire back but not destroying the plane.

Well...they would eventually...destroy your plane...if you stayed close enough for long enough... :headscratch:

Do you guys still think this is a good idea?

IMHO, thirty minutes in the Training Arena with one of the Trainers will teach you more than you could learn in several hours with offline drones.

So really, I've spent days in the TA because of my 3 years offline? ;) :D
