Know this has been brought up before and I hardly fly em but have began to start and get a better feel for them. Have seen threads on Yak-3 in here but never really did the research. Just want you guys to check out this Wiki page and just read the Operational History Section. I found it to be quite shocking!

Not really. The post war Yak-3 with the VK-107 engine, yes, but the wartime Yak-3 had the less powerful VK-105 engine.
In AH the Yak-9U has a VK-107 and the Yak-9T has a VK-105.

It was competitive with the 109 F, about the same turn rate, speed, arnament and era. BIG +1 along with the remodelled Jak9 series.

Yak-3 is much later than the Bf109F. Don't let the number fool you, they aren't sequential. The Yak-3 is a development of the Yak-1. The Yak-9 is a development of the Yak-7.
The Yak-3 would also handily outfly the Bf109F-4.

Yup, youre right. Thought its a '42 bird...
Edit: even tho i failed, still +1 : )

Nice response lol...and sorry for the Link, it should have taken you to just the Yak3 Wiki Info and didnt know it went to all those pics etc. I just found it interesting that it said somethin like 16 of these Yak3's fought 24 LW planes and shot down like 16 or some watermelon for a loss of 1 or none....and LW operations in that AO dropped to nothing. Thats why I said it was quite shocking lol.

If the Jak3 could outfly the 109F, it could also outfly the spit9, ki84, f4u, etc etc so falls into the same category as the zeek, hurricane, brewster??
I "heard" that it could do a sustained circle in 17 seconds, thats pretty much the same as the 109F, also their top speeds are quite simmilar, also the 109F has a very small turn radius with flaps, 410 yards.
Lets hear the Jak experts : )

Agree, I do not fly the Yak's enough right now. Like I said, I just started on them so I would very much like to hear from some Yakkity Yak sticks their thoughts on this...

Doesn't the yak3 fly much like the la7 except for the top speed?

Spit IX is a 1942 fighter, Ki-84 is crippled by bad fuel and the F4U would have some distinct performance advantages and disadvantages against the Yak-3. Remember, the WWII Yak-3 was powered by the same ~1200hp engine as the Yak-9T. It was the post war Yak-3 powered by the ~1500hp engine our Yak-9U has that put up the nearly 5,000ft/min. The Yak-3's increased performance on the same engines was due to lower weight and better streamlining.

Um, no.

how much lighter was the Yak 3 to the 9? because i believe it'd be more stable than the 9U and easier to handle

so, the jaks takeoff weight was around 5000 pounds, according to the wiki (someone post a data from a reliable source plz)
Its an AMAZING little number, 1100 pounds less than the 109F and about the same as a light a6m5.
BUT
the Jaks wing area is even less than the 109Fs, 14.85 m3 vs 16.05m3, also the 109F has 1350 horses under the hood vs the Jaks 1200. I except very simmilar flight characteristics from theese numbers when the jak is a little bit more maneuverable but slower than the 109F. Also i "think" (speculation light on) that the jak had a very short flight time.
:salute

bump for answer?
Yak 3 (VK 105 PF 2 @1250 / 1290 hp) had an all up weight of approx 2675kg
Yak 9U ( VK107A @ 1500 hp) had an all up weight of approx 3204 to 3227 kg (depending upon source)
btw
The VK 105 pF 2 was not available for other air craft (other than the Yak 3) until November 44 hence our Yak9T would have had the VK105 PF @ 1180 hp ( approx 3025 kg all up)
