After having bailed from an aircraft, pilots should, IMHO, fall to their deaths when their chutes are sufficiently damaged. A little scream, and maybe some flailing limbs (noticing the new troop animations for the first time, I think this is probably quite doable) would really flesh this out quite nicely. To really be effective, this might require disabling the option to tower out while falling. One unintended result of this could be that the newer players who aren't as familiar with the mechanics, might hit the silk at 30K and find themselves stuck doing nothing for 5 minutes, as in the past. To counteract that effect, perhaps another key could be added to cut the chute away, allowing them to quickly reach terminal velocity, and therefore end their sortie much faster.
As an alternate idea, towering out could have the same effect as cutting the shoot away, leaving you few options:
-ride the wreck in, die
-bail, deploy chute early, cut chute away, fall, die
-bail, deploy chute early, get chute shot away, fall, die
-bail, free fall to a relatively low/safe altitude, deploy chute, land safely, live
So, we would retain a similar level of realism-as-it-relates-to-AH, prevent unnecessarily long periods of downtime in the chute for newer/less experienced players, and offer a bit more entertainment for everyone else. What's not to like?

i like it... alot.
i was flying an offline mission the other day, went to try and down a chute from my Ki-84, and i couldnt. :headscratch:
i do agree with the being able to opt out of the animations that happen when you shoot down a chute though.
you forgot just one thing though
-ride the wreck in, pull out your institincts, dust them off, and land successfully.
:D

Great idea! I feel a connection to it already. :rofl

:lol If I have seen further than other dweebs, it's just because I'm standing on them. I think Einstein said that. Back to the yard work....

If this wish could not be granted for the entire population of the game, I am willing for its effects to only be inflicted upon my squad, or Pyro willing myself.

For once I am in complete support of Princess. I'd actually bail out of my falling wreck just to hear myself scream all the way down with a ruined chute. As it is now, my only option is screaming myself, which is really disconcerting to the wife, or quietly riding my broken 38 in.

If you're going to go through all that trouble then you should be able to direct yourself in freefall as well and dive after people like Arnold Schwartzeneger or James Bond or someone in the movies would do.
Just imagine two guys in a looping fight, the one below hits the one above but just at the same time gets hit by the higher guy's squaddie. They both bail at almost the same time. The lower guy pops his chute but the other guy flies by, cuts his shoot off then opens his own and the guy who was floating safley to earth goes splat.
Or maybe you could do a fly-by shooting. Dive toward an enemy plane and pop the pilot with your .45 as you fly by.
Besides that it might be fun to do that human flying thing next to the mountains.

I could certainly endorse some rudimentary control over free-fall within realistic limits. Chuteshooting is a sport, after all, so the prey should be afforded some limited means to evade. I think shooting while in freefall might be a bit of a stretch; I've not tried to shoot anything after jumping out of an airplane, but I'd imagine it would be even more difficult than using the .45 on the ground is currently. And yes, for extremely bored dweebs, recreational jumping could be a nice stress-reliever.

How you feel about hosting a Chute Dueling Tournament BE? :)

Yay! :x
Can we get a giant forest for the arena? There was this glitch that I got stuck in a bush. The enemies then strafed me at their territory in their bush. :cry

The .45 does next to nothing. At best, it annoys them. Hit T34-85, wirbs, and a spixteen.

Any time I see an enemy chute that doesn't end sortie, I chute out and try to get him with my 45.
Once, I ran into the map room there was a dude standing there, I shot him and he blew up so I guess he was enemy.
Another time, I ran into the map room and there was a dude standing there, I shot him and I blew up so I guess he was friendly.
So went my first week here.
I've been standing in enemy VH a lot hoping for a jeep to spawn.

:O you can get in the maproom?!?! where is it??!?!!

For fun, one day I want to try this. You pass over a guy in a chute. So bail and try and float with him/her. Then blast em with the pistola.

I know for a fact you can give a pilot a PW while standing on the runway with your .45. It has happened to me in FSO while I was re arming. :furious

You didn't film the last duel we had in chutes, how can we respect you winning the event if you don't follow the rules?
:bolt:

I forgot to put film in my camera! I wasn't in my plane that had a gun camera! It was an old super 8 movie camera and I left the tape out! How do you expect me to drive a parachute, fire my 45 and film at the same time!?!?!?!

Fly over a friendly town and bail out near the big flag in the middle of town. The maproom is an underground bunker next to the flagpole.
