The New Jersey would add a little spice to Whale Wars.

But they already won?

They should take those ships, dry dock them, take the decks off, fit them with reactors out of decommissioned aircraft carriers, put thicker armored decks on them, and cut them loose. Take modern equipment off of recently decommissioned ships and update everything on them. With cruise missiles, Phalanx systems, and other upgrades, those old beasts with their 16" guns would be monsters. Especially with the new powder developed for them.

They were up till around 2007 - and were struck from the Reseve fleet. My old boss RADM David Bill drove to Wisconsin during Gulf War 1 - we had the discussion many times.

My MOI in college used to tell stories about the push to retake Kuwait City during GW1. Said they were planning some fire support when a GURF (Guns Up and Ready to Fire) report came in over the Naval Gunfire Spot net in the ANGLICO det's rig. Said they scrambled through the code book to find out what ship belonged to the callsign, and when one of the ANGLICO guys said "Wisconsin", Smokin' Joe said they all just stood around the map staring at each other for a few seconds, then everyone got a huge smile on their faces. Said even though the ship was out of view from the coast, you could see the broadside on the horizon. Something to be said for slinging that kind of metal downrange like that...
