Title: My latest video... C-123K in flight...
Post by: flight17 on June 27, 2011, 01:39:08 AM
filmed this saturday. I didnt get my camcorder in time so i had to use my point and shoot in movie mode, which it turned out pretty well. The audio wasnt that bad either. Most of the high pitch sounds are the APU which is in the cabin or our hyd. pumps.

enjoy, its a little long though

Wonderful plane, nice footage, and thanks for sharing!   :rock   :salute

(yours isn't one of the C-123s that might get caught up in the whole Vietnam Agent Orange contamination hoo-ha, I hope?)

the camera was in the window just aft of the door. I was sitting in the first seat on the left side which would be in between the "Dangar Prop" line and the next aft window. Pretty much where the line of oil runs up the fuselage, was where i was sitting. And if the prop would i failed and came through the cabin, i would probably have been hit...

I just noticed, i forgot to post some of the pics from the air show...

The Main attractions were Panchito and Quick Silver and us :) It was more of a fly in type air show. People came and went. Panchito was doing crew training flights as well as giving rides so it was constantly coming in going which was cool. A formation of two Beech T-34's and a Nanchang (or whatever they are called) flew over and then landed. There were two T-6's, a Sterman, a 1957 Bell 47, a J-3, our L-21B and some private aircraft that i didnt recognize.

Im so mad with this shot (before we left)... for some reason my camera randomly took photos in 640x400 res, so some really good photos ended up being too small...

I see. Judging just by the video (not knowing where you sat) it seemed like you had a great field of view, not just one window. Great job on the recording.  :aok

Air Heritage ;)

Machfly, it was at the Butler Air Show, in Butler, Pa.

as for the view, what allow it is the fact that the fuselage starts to narrow right at that window. And it just so happened to work out that the alluminum has holes through it to save weight. Well i was able to put my skinny tripod in this holes and just had to extend one leg on the backside to touch to fly to steady it. It was literally a perfect fit. So i could look out 90 degrees and get the engine, or i could turn it forward until the side of the window was just barely in the picture and could see in front of the plane pretty well.

The audio was better than any video i have recorded from the outside, which supprised me. I actually wasnt that loud on the inside, at least from the engines. I didnt have my headset on during runups (which i had to cut out of the video for time) and was fine. The majority of annoyingly high pitched sounds are actually coming from the APU which is in the cabin or the electrical system.
