In AH, the landing gear on the TBM is damaged at airspeeds > 200 mph TAS.
I had hopes of using the extended gear as a quasi-divebrake, as is reported in various accounts of TBM Avenger combat operations.
The pilot's manual ("Grumman TBM Avenger Pilot's Flight Manual", Lulu.com, First ed May, 2006) lists a single line of "The landing gear shall not be lowered at speeds in excess of 200 knots (230 mph) and shall not be retracted at speeds in excess of 150 knots (173 mph)" - Section 1 par. 3
I have not found test data or pilot reports of maximum speeds at which the gear can be down without damage. Still looking.
Any chance for this incremental change to 230 mph?

i agree fully. never knew this, but this makes me want to see the change. there is also another issue with the TBM that i know is going on with other planes..

TBM-3 is an AH1 model. All AH1 models had that problem if they had landing gear that were not fully covered by gear bay doors.

The TBM goes slow already just how slow were you wanting to get it? Or option B as you get over your target pull straight up hard rudder to one side as you stall deploy flaps and use your rudder to stall turn to target.
now you have a bit of extra time to line up.

Never made sense to me either, they do snap off at a rather low speed, and since I think I've read a couple accounts in various books and stories of TBMs being used from unfinished/damaged/undeveloped/rough landing strips on islands in the pacific, I would of assumed they had a bit more inherent umpf to them or at least some tolerance for abuse.

Yes it is rather velocity-challenged, isn't it? Semi-dive bombing accuracy isn't really an issue for me; just thought it would be a relatively easy fix and a small addition to the Avenger's tiny bag of tricks :salute

Was the landing gear actually lowered? or were the gear doors opened? That would make an enormous difference. I was under the impression that the F4u "dive brakes" were in the form of opening the landing gear doors, and not deploying the wheels themselves. (I could also be totally wrong) I would also guess that in terms of game design it is much simpler to just "drop the gear" and get a similar effect. (i.e. F4u)
