Title: MediaFire Alternate
Post by: 100Coogn on July 01, 2011, 06:34:30 PM
As a victim of dial-up, I was wondering is there an alternative uploading site,
other than mediafire, that may be a little more user friendly.

Too many adds kills my upload...

What do you have in mind, Coogan? I know you're familiar with my site "TechVideoReview.com/FlightSimMovies". It's intended for hosting flight sim movies, missions, and maps. I might be willing to publish some of your work there, if you 're willing to email it to me or something, so long as it fits the general pattern of the other stuff I've already published. We've got forums there, too, so you could get more feedback....

Thanks bbosen, but my missions don't upload to badly, since the file sizes are usually smaller than 10MB.
I've just been trying to upload a few family videos, but the files are pretty big.
Just wondering if there's a site with some type of Upload Manager, like there are Download Managers.

Have you tried zipping the files first then uploading them? It will cut them down alot smaller.

Yep, I zip them.  I think it's really my ISP more than anything.  Dial-up's the only thing available in my area at the moment.
Unless I want to use some kind of satellite stuff.  I've heard that that's worse than dial-up for online gaming.

Windows Live has something called Mesh which is free. You could establish an account there and share the account information with your family. Just bear in mind everyone has write and delete permissions.

If you use Firefox, install the AdBlockPlus add-on. I don't even remember what ads look like.

My MIS professor last semester was a big proponent of getting us to use Dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com/tour) for sharing files in our group projects.  My group didn't actually use it but it looks like exactly what you need.
