Title: We need map voting!
Post by: Belial on July 01, 2011, 06:36:03 PM
If a map is up that nobody likes such as the current one I'd like to have the option to vote for a new one.

I can see where that would go.  Mass base taking squads all panic vote to get the easiest to conquer map up.

Nope, I don't think we NEED map voting.  I think you'd like map voting :)

If you dont like the map, make a new one and submit it to HTC for use

Players already have a vote... kinda. See any side getting closer to reset than the other? Well, hop over and help them! :)

I recall a number of years ago when my (then) squaddie, NB (NoBaddy) spent about 6 months, part time on his part, designing, creating and de-bugging Trinity.

Belial, since you're obviously disenchanted with some of the maps we have in the current rotation, perhaps you'd be willing to give it a go.

Not a bad wish IMO.  The peoples voice should be heard...
If the map sucks azz, then it should be looked into.

hey!! you feeling ok? it's not like you to be so pessimistic.

you know as well as i do, that base taking squads would never do such a thing. they are good they can take any base on any map. why would they need to vote in an "easy" map?  :noid

My intention was to have a way of circumventing maps people don't prefer...say when the war is won people get a choice of all available maps to choose as the next one.

If that didn't come out clear it was the booz...

When a new map is getting ready to pop give the people a multiple choice box...

There are a few maps maps I thoroughly dislike and I know I'm not the only one. Yet I do not want to see such an option at all. I do not want to see maps skipped just because they appeal "only" to 40% of the population. HTC might lose more than it will gain from such a vote.
And rotation is big enough to endure every map every once in a while, and since the new 20% rule it's also quick enough. It's not that we have one map up for a whole month anymore.

Where exactly did you come up with this result? You don't like it, some vocal people don't like it, but those who are fine are quiet about it so you assume "nobody" likes the map?  You "vote" for a changed map and those who like it are left out of a map they like?  There is a rotation for a reason.

If you can get enough people together to "vote" away a map, you can get them together and change the map.

like it was explained in another thread.  it could be very easy for two countries to vote to change when the 3rd is about to win the war.  or perhaps late at night when there's not that many players maps could change every 20 minutes.

Hell if I was to see some b29's hitting the strats then I would call for a map change right away :devil.

why would they make it so u could vote to change it during the middle of a war.i think the war would have to be won and during the 4 minutes til map change players vote on the next map.maybe with a small pic of the map and then a check box next to it.after the 4 mins u open the map to the one that got the most votes.

Seems to be a complete contradiction to those who claim this is war!  Since when did those in the middle of a war get to choose their battlefield?

"excuse me Mr. war monger.  We prefer a more quaint map with nice easy paths for us to drive our tanks.  We'd prefer that the airways be uncluttered with mountains or valleys as they can be very inconvenient.  No clouds, wind or rain either.  We're working on our cartoon tans."

htc had come up with a way to do just that. but then everyone whined about it.

Here is a plan. If you hate the map that is up simple change sides to one country and run the map and get a reset. How is that for map voting? I would rather see the GV spawns tightened up so I don't spend 20 minutes driving and 5 minutes fighting before I have to start the 20 drive all over.

what i think they're saying, is that they can't stand the map to the point where they don't wanna fly on it.

if that's the case....then like i said....htc gave them a solution to that......but then everyone and their second cousin once removed was complaining about it.........no matter what they do, people are quick to complain. no one seems to want to praise them for giving us the best Golly-gee sim on the interwebs.

Some people hate some maps while others love them. "uterus" is a horrible map for GVs, but the furball guys love it. Each map has it's "up" side, you just need to play that aspect of the game while that map is on.

or go to the other arena, where there's probably a map they like.....oops.....wait....the y friggin whined too much, and don't have that option now.

If a country's winning the opposing countries could vote to change the map. Also, there might be more whining in a map change.

ONLY voting during the 4 minute period leading up to the map change...like he said a list with a small picture...highest votes win

Not crazy about any of the maps. The big maps have way too many bases and the bases on the small maps are too far away. Half the width of the clipboard should be maximum distance for bases. Less transit time equals more action! The shift to one MA has made a big difference in game play (much more action). Now let's take it a step further with smaller maps and closer bases and spawns.

Well why not have a vote on the maps we have now and see if you can vote any of the maps off the island so to speak.  Then maybe those map aficionados can put their whine and complain about the maps time into creating maps for the arenas that will sooth the players into a world of contentment and air combat.  Maybe we can call that first map...Utopia....Then maybe the Shangri-La map, followed by Nirvana map.

I feel more content and peaceful just thinking about all these new and blissful maps the map whiners are going to make for us.  I want some kool aid...I want to take a nap.....

I was thinking something along the same line. Do a ranking poll on every map and use the results to determine some random-ish cycle (and maybe eliminate the two lowest scoring maps from the rotation?)

I wonder how many maps-in-progress are either being sat on ay HTC, or by map makers themselves?

I have only two suggestions for map(maker)s:  less clutter trees and more "earthly" terrains - hills/mts are cool, but sheesh, people...

I mentioned this idea while back ago and although it has its drawbacks, it might be worth trying out anyway.

Country who wins reset, gets to vote for the next map. But they only have say about the time it takes for the map to reset (5 minutes). If say if two maps are tied, well, only suggestion I could make on that is to let HTC itself decide.

Terrible Idea.   What is my "favorite" map for example never gets voted on.  This could be true for many people.

-1. I suspect the strategy players would domimate the voting so we'd wind up on the same easier to win maps all the time. Their superior lobbying and coalition building skills would marginalize the vote of the lone wolf/picker/runner.

But would it matter to them?  Speaking as a guy who is generally not particularly interested in moving mud, all the maps have sky in them, therefore most of my requirements for fun are met.  The exception being the map with the mountain ranges splitting the countries and only Vbases along the borders except for in a couple of places.  The airfields there I just find are too far apart.  Generally speaking the more easily rollable maps have the bases relatively close together, so the guys who are just there to knock down enemy planes wouldn't have to travel particularly far to get to the fight.
