SSgt Tim Chambers is back, and for those of you who do not know who I am talking about here is the original video....

Here is the story from the local news channel

:salute SSgt Chambers and keep up the great work, 3.5 hours at the position of attention, show great mettle and worse yet with a broken wrist.

That is impressive.
-
3 and a half hours? Were there any breaks?
-Penguin
-
Penquin he stood tall for 3 1/2 hours straight ..no breaks. He did have a member of the parade audience come out a couple of times to give him water and aspirin for his broken wrist but other than that he was there the whole time.

Oof, that's rough. It seems strange that he didn't volunteer for another position, given his injury.
-Penguin
-
He feels it is his obligation to do it,no matter the cost, and I have nothing but respect for the man and I dont know him from Adam...LOl
-
you can see it in his face that his wrist hurts. :salute
-
True Masonz, you can see he is hurting but he never wavers from his post.
-
Why not do it next year instead? He'd have saved himself a great deal of pain and let his wrist heal, while noone has to feel guilty that he's in so much pain.

You know things that today's youth know almost nothing about. My hat's off to the SSgt. I can't imagine 3½ hours at attention in class A, let alone blues. :salute

with a broken wrist...
about knowing things many youth dont, rough life as a child forced an early maturity...that with the fire department.

I still don't see why. It's not like there aren't other volunteers. It's a win-win-win. Another guy gets to do it, too, your wrist heals, and the parade still has a guy to salute.

your not understanding. he has pride in his country, respect for those serving, Service for his country before his well being. pain is temporary, pride is forever. pain is mental. you block out the pain of something and you can go far in times of need/want

Since he did it it's on him, he could either do it or not; he could.. I'm sure he didn't do it for attention. I saw that type of dedication among service members daily. Salute to him and all who served and serve.

I'm not trolling it, it just seems very strange that he did this. Was a soldier to salute the bikers needed that badly?
-Penguin
Peng
Because he wanted to.
And that's enough.
I hope and believe that one day you will be strong enough to do similar deeds. Not for glory or personal honor but because you believe it's the right thing to do.
The media doesn't show it often enough but, even on this board, you are surrounded by ordinary men who are extraordinary heroes.
People with real problems and yet they can take the time to comfort a friend through a difficult time. Men and women who raised children into young adults that excel in life and are willing to serve our country in one way or another. People who have gone through losses that you can not imagine yet and still have time to offer a kind word or support to a person they have never met.
That kind of spirit is one of the bedrocks of the foundation of humanity regardless of nationality.

I see your point but you have to see it from his perspective and from all the gentlemen riding the bikes. He feels it is his duty and he takes pride in what he does, he has become a part of the parade that people are waiting to see.
All i can say is he started doing this on his own. he was not asked to do it and he refuses to allow himself to miss it. He is doing this to show respect to the fallen soldiers and to the bikers who pay tribute to them.
OK here it is in his own words why he did this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62br6dtd6yQ&feature=related

Aha, that explains it. This guy has been doing it for a long, long time and feels that he has to. It makes a bit more sense now. I had thought that he either:
a.) Was doing it for the first time ever
b.) Was part of a larger organization who could organize a replacement

Holy ****... And I thought an hour at attention for an inspection was tough! I couldn't imagine doing that... My hat is off to that Marine, and he is a sterling example of the caliber of man that goes forth to defend his country.
Honor. Courage. Commitment.
