Seems to me it was the Pinto was the one with the running joke about it exploding if you tapped it in the back, even just a little bit. Can't find the film now, but it was classic of another car just nicking the rear bumper and the old Pinto blew sky high.
Ahh the 70s

Girlfriends brother in 77 or so had a Yellow/Black Pinto wagon that had a 289 in it.
He chopped the top behind driver's seat, made it into a sort of pickup.
Called it a "Pin-up"

Had a cousin drop a 460 in one... never could get it to hook up. Wonder if it was too much motor?
-
Had a friend that had an AMC Gremlin that could do 8s in the 1/4 mile. Thing was sick, Rear was shortened so much that the Micky Thompsons made the car look like a fat chicks backside when u looked at the car from the rear :lol

My dad has told me stories about the Ford Pinto. People who drove one had bumper stickers that read:
"I live for today, I drive a Pinto"
"Ford. Pinto. Fireball."
The one time that he ever rode in one, he got tailgated. I can't imagine how scary that must have been.

Over exaggerated comes to mind.

My very first brand new car was a 72 Ford Pinto. People used to have bumper stickers on them that said "Please don't tailgate this is not one of Ford's better Ideas" There was a video put out that showed one getting tailgated. It looked like someone opened a firehose up in the back seat. (turns out that video was faked)

I can remember a friend of mine took a pinto body and mounted it on a bronco frame...LOL he called it a Pronco.. Ugly as hell but it went everywhere.
