Nice little museum with a small spread of craft. The first aircraft to fly in KY- the Sellers Quad Plane, also an F-14B Tomcat, Bell copter, A4 Skyhawk, Piper grasshopper. Three planes out front, also: Cessna (150 I believe), F4-S Phantom and an F-101R Voodoo (Recon).
I'm going to help restore craft in the hangars and help them move stuff around. I am also able to be a tour guide and a clerk. Job shadowing a lot next week to get in the flow of things. Should be a great experience. Drop by if you're in the Lexington area sometime. The place has seen people from all 50 states and from 63 foreign countries.

The Sellers quad plane is the first plane with retractable landing gear. It is also said that he flew it before the Wright Brothers flew in Kitty Hawk, but I'm not sure if this is accurate. It was flown in Eastern Kentucky, so documentation of the incident is likely to be few and far between if there is any.

sweet... i wish we had a f-14... though if we did, i would never get anything done because more than likely i would be sitting in the cockpit with maverick behind me day dreaming all day lol.

I'm an official tour guide. Going in tomorrow for the afternoon shift and then I have to go in Tuesday for the restoration. Wednesday I'm going in because we're going to have a group of 80 kids. :O
A lot of history in these fellow volunteers. We alk all day long when we aren't actually working. If heaven had a volunteer job, this would be it. War stories and the whole shabang.

yup, somehow when i go to air Heritage, thats how it always turns up... hardly get any work done.

Complete list of craft that I can think of (excluding the experimental and privately built planes).
F-14B, Cessna, F4 Phantom, A4 Skyhawk, OH-58D Bell Kiowa, Ah-1 Cobra, "Heath" midwing mono-plane, AT-38, F-101 Voodoo, L-4 Grasshopper, Aeronca monoplane, Waco bi-plane (circa 1930) and another bi-plane whose name escapes me. The Bell is fully interactive, you're allowed to sit in the pilot/co-pilot seats and work the controls. In 6 months, we're hoping to have the second hangar up where we'll showcase the Doolittle raid (btw, we have a donated engineer bag from plane #9 of the assault), the quadraplane and have 1-2 flight simulators. It's a really cool venture. Completely non-profit. Gawd Bless, I love my new job. :aok

We have a guy over at the airport who flies his P-51 sometimes. The museum guys spruce it up and keep it and other planes in working order (or try to :lol ).
