i went onto dodge's website. partly due to the mention of the srt8 challenger in the other hotly debated thread. \
are these people at dodge friggin SERIOUS??? friggin $44k??! for a car that can still easily lose in all catagories to a standard gt mustang, or a standard 2lt camaro, both of which are about $10k less?
for $44k, i can buy a boss302, that'll keep a srt8 in the weeds, without breaking a sweat....and judging by what shuffler's said about the zl1 camaro, it too should be able to do this.
me thinks dodge needs to step back, and take a long hard look. those prices now make it blatantly obvious as to why there's lots of fast mustangs and camaros, and not many fast challengers.
-
I think the only good think Chrysler has going for it right now is pickups, actually scratch that, just the pickups with the Cummins diesel. Some of the newer Jeeps (less then half) are nice, but also ridiculously priced, and I can't think of any Chrysler car I would like to own.
The stuff I'd really like to say on this would get "see rule #14" so just use your imagination. :D

Love the looks of the Challenger but it needs to lose a thousand pounds.

how much is that one gonna cost? about 55k? and at that point, it's competition will be the supersnake.....and we know the end result of that.....again. :aok

Dodge actually won a Nascar race last night in Kentucky.

cool....i think.
that said........go fast, turn left. if someone gets in your way, don't dare touch em, or you'll get fined. no thanks. if they put it to the way it used to be 30 years ago, when they used to really race, maybe. it seems now, when i turn on a nascar race, it's a 190mph freight train.

Nothing new. Dodge has always been overpriced.

The last reliable Dodge Pickup was made in 1993. The "Little Wee-Wee Editions" they make today are a joke. The only reliable thing in a Ram today is the Cummins. The Unit Bearing Assemblies suck, the Hemi's suck (any ENGINE with a .7 after it is garbage, except the new Cummins) which have paper-thin oil pans and lastly.....Dodge has decided to "replace the rear leaf springs with coil springs to improve ride and handling"....... :rofl :rofl Gotta love mall crawlers.

it's kind of a shame really. the challenger truly is the best looking of the retro-hotrods.

I think it's you who are wrong CAP (assuming he's talking about a Cobra) I'm pretty sure '65 is the year they switched from the 289, to the 427.

Yes I was. When someone says "Shelby" and "427" in the same sentence, what else am I supposed to think of???

Speaking of Carroll Shelby.
Now that Ford no longer makes the GT. I think for their next retro Shelby design they should put into production the GR-1. :O Basically it's to the original Daytona coupe, what the GT was to the original GT40.

that's a bad bellybutton lookin car.....but it's probably stupidly expensive too.
incase anyone thinks ford's keeping all their eggs in the mustang.....think again.
can you say focus st? 247hp./ :devil

I was speaking of the 65 Shelby Cobra and yes it does indeed have a 427.

yes, the cobra does...but when referencing a "shelby", one is normally speaking of a shelby mustang. a "cobra" is generally....well....a cobra.
as for shelbys, they never came with a 427(i think). think they were 289, 351, 390, and a couple versions of the 428. :aok
-
thats the issue with Dodge, over priced for what you get.
still a Ram fan over ford any day :bolt:

Unless they are talking about a Shelby Charger, or a Shelby Omni, or a Shelby Lancer... Or maybe a GT40, or a Daytona Coupe, or a LeMans, or a Cobra, or a Viper....
Seriously, Shelby has had a hand in so many cars, I can't believe people only associate him with Mustangs.

Nope. Cobra and Mustang, then the Viper.
He also forgot the Shelby Dakota..... :x
-
shelby messed with a dakota? i never knew that............i do remember making fun of the guys that drove the omni glh i think it was.......even the turbo shelby........i also remember putting at least one out, before the entire car burned down.

Keep on pumpin' out dose Camaros and Mustangs!
Makes the value of my challenger go up daily.
And....Shuff ole boy. Camaro pulled up next to me a few sundays back, new one V8 was at a red light.
He reved his engine for a go......nice dark blue in color. Sounded healthy.
Said to myself "last time ya did this was forty years ago...to old to do that now LOL.
Then said to myself....what the hell.......light turned green we're off....immediately knew his camaro was
an auto as it shifted into 2nd......I hit second , chirped headed for 3rd.....he backed down and quit.
5.7 Hemi one......Camaro v8 whatever it was zero. Guess they don't sell ballz with Camaros? ;)
And ya the R/t is heavy...but it is nicely sized....and rides like a dream.
And in the "other" post the list I posted of awards won by the Challenger in the last 5 years
seems to validate the publics thinking on the Challenger. they're even worth more and depreciate
far less quicker then the 2 100K models produced per year Chevys and Fords. Not just my
opinion....read.
I've nothing more to say...the general public has said it all.

the current v-6 camry's are mid sized sedans. the focus is a hatchback, and doing it on 4 cylinders.....
i still want to see a v-8 powered camry for sale.....

I think of Chili :D
His chili mix is good stuff.

Yup all he has to do is step on the gas to show you his tail lights. Funny he would instigate anything he won't carry through. lol

I'd take a GLHS Omni in a second..... but it has to be a GLHS not a GLH

my figuring on that was that they run winston cup.
but then ford would have to make a v8 taurus again.......

Why? The eco boost is more than sufficient.

i know......i've been being wise arsed, alluding to the fact that they're all running v8's in that clown circus that winston cup has become......yet there's no production car of such. :devil

fair enough. i don't care how many cylinders it takes though...long as the power is there and the fuel mileage is competitive.

that brings us back to the mustang. nearly 30mpg with over 400hp is pretty dam respectable ya know. or the v6 at 308 getting over 30mpg.
just think....all of us middle aged, or old hot rodders.....whoda thunk, 30 years ago, that we'd be able to get more than 20mpg making decent power, much less topping 30mpg.
and if it weren't for the epa and their bs, ford would be bringing the better focus over here......which is more powerful than the st, and i think still tops 40mpg. friggin SCARY.....in a fun way.
i had that customer i've mentioned before with the 650hp 87 gt convertible. he just sold it. he mentioned about putting an order in for an 012 focus st.

My buddy in HS had a GLH-S. He made about $10,000 over two years in drag races. One Corvette owner was coaxed out of "racing for slips" and he lost........bad ($2500 went to my buddy instead).

The Focus RS is the one I would get, if they'd bring it here. 300+ HP, Top Speed of 162 mph and a 0-60 in 5.9. All of that from a Focus. :rofl

My old 82 GT that I build would get fantastic gas mileage if I kept my toe out of it. I could get around all week with out a fill up. However if you screwed around and pushed it you could burn a tank in an evening.
The car had over 300hp but I took every ounce of fat out of the car. I was young and did silly stuff like cutting out the bracing under the hood, doors and quarters. You could dent any body panel with a moderate push. Hell I took all the sound deadening material out as well. You closed the doors and it sounded like a bell.
My point is if these fat pony cars of today were not mandated to carry all the extra BS they'd be getting even better mpg.

from everything i've read, it doesn't look like they're bringing that one. kinda sucks.

i had an 83 gl with a 5 liter, 5 speed with the trx suspension. i can start off by saying that the trx suspension was the most uncapable suspension ford ever put on a stang. to say it sucked is insulting things that suck.
that being said.......i didn't know much about electronics back then. i took the duraspark dist. out, put in a dual point dist from my 289 hipo. total dwell was 35 degrees, total timing was 38 degrees, and it was all in by 2k rpm. took the motorcraft holly off, put a real holly on...i think it was a 650 double pumper, and played around with the squirters and jets......then went from stock manifolds to long tube headers.
stock that car went 15.2's. it only managed mileages in the low teens, with my driving. with the above mods, it went 13.8's, and mileage came up to nearly 20, with no other changes. i tossed one of those mr gasket air intakes on there(remember the chrome ones that looked like the ones on funny cars of that era?)....that brought me to 13.5's. pretty good i felt for a schmuck not knowing much at the time.

I had a lot of help and guidance from the older motor heads I worked with... do this don't do that. Believe me I wanted to do a ton of stupid crap that would have cost me a bunch and done little for performance. Best advise was the cutting weight, it is pretty much free hp.... i went overboard.
I had free hand in the bone yard I was working in... we had it all there, torches , welders, frame machine and many other assorted goodies. Yea getting it to hook was a chore. My boss had the bright idea of making tube rear upper and lower control arms with heim joints. With a lot of help and adjustments we got it to hook up quite a bit better. Then I was blowing up spider gears like clockwork... the fix... well i was about out of $ so a welder took care of my spider gear prob. You can guess what was welded. :D Needless to say broken spider gears and rear diff clutch packs were no longer a problem. :D You ever disconnect the front sway bar?

shop i used to work at, we had a customer with an 88 gt. he set it in his mind, that he was gonna get that car in the 10's on the original engine. he went overboard lightening it up.......including removing the heater box, scraping off the undercoating, etc. he had the car weighed, it was a tick over 2600#.
he took it to the track, clicked off a pair of 11.20's. they escorted him off the track, due to lack of rollcage. when he had the cage put in, he was right back up to 3100#.
he ran 3 stage nitrous. clicked off a 10.77. he also broke the block on that pass. he didn't seem to care though, seeing as he got into the 10's.
funny how much things have changed......the new coyote 5 liters go into the 10's with minimal work now.

yea i know. my 89 was a 12 second car, driven daily. i think the exact combo in an lx would've been in the 11/s.
