I have come across several A6Ms lately and each time i get a good burst in every time and they never catch fire. I don't see how they don't light up. So may say I am whining but to me the thing is practically indestructible, and its really starting to annoy me as the A6M burned when you hit it in real life. For those who don't agree here is the proof.

You can clearly see that the A6M and many other Japanese aircraft burn. This is because its fuel tanks were unprotected, so several .50 calibre hits were more than enough to bring the Zeke down. It is not a flying tank as show in Aces High.

I don't know who you're flying against, but a single .303 to the fuel and I'm up in flames.
-
You're kidding, right? The zeke is by no means a flying tank. I'm usually down by a single .50 cal burst. Tracer rounds turn the bird into a torch
-
huh, i guess something might be wrong with my 50s, possibly the infamous rubber bullet. I guess its not a widespread problem as i thought. please help as i cant kill those things.
-
It's hit or miss for flames, sometimes it takes 1 bullet sometimes 30 lol
-
Shoot for the area of the wing in between the root and the rising sun.... Why am I helping you shoot me down? :headscratch:

not as many in game as you think without self sealing tanks... well not many Japanese aircraft in the first place in game :lol
A6M series, KI61, G4M, D3A1, B5N all don't have self sealing tanks. (but you never see Vals and Kates often so exclude them really)
The George, KI67, and KI84 actually do have self sealing tanks

The Ki-61 has self sealing fuel tanks as well :aok

Didn't they add a self sealing fuel system to the A6M5 as well?
-
and the 61 is the only jap plane with armour plating round the pilot aswell and even with planes with self sealling tanks like p47s 38s 51s just to name a few will under certain fire catch on fire

The Ki-84, N1K2 and the Ki-67 all have these features as well :aok
The A6M5 has some armor in the windscreen and from what I've read some "absorbent" material around the fuel cells, but not self sealing fuel tanks. It didn't seem to help much as they still caught fire easily compared to the American aircraft.
-
hmm really didnt know about the other ones

WING47,
Fly a bunch of sorties in the A6M2, A6M3 or even A6M5b (its fire suppression systems aren't very effective) and you're notice that you catch on fire very much more often. Not as often as in a G4M1, but you're harder to hit and have less fuel take area relative to the size of the aircraft in the A6M.
