Title: Carpet bombing an enemy runway
Post by: Rob52240 on July 12, 2011, 08:50:40 AM
Is this frowned upon?
It happened to me once and I was mad as heck at the time but after giving it some thought I decided it was kinda funny.

funny as hell and very acceptable in my book, both to be bombed and doing the bombing.

my squad bombs runways somewhat frequently and it's funny every time.

Better the runway for cheap kills, than to kill the fight by leveling the hangars, no?

Jeepers... next you know dropping any bombs within 5 sectors of your field will be insulting! C'mon! Cut the bomber guys some slack!

I took a rocket hit on take-off yesterday during a Bish hoard base take, so I grabbed a bent winged bomber off the carrier and flew over to repay the favor.

I was laughing both times.  Take and give, give and take, it's all fun and games.

I think bombing of farmland is cruel and unusual punishment.

You've got me thinking...
Maybe what this game needs (after the M-18 of course) is Landmines and Livestock.

Dirt needs turning for farming. It airates the soil and improves lawn growth.

I dropped a single 500 from a corsair onto a cv. This was back about 8 years. I remember getting 10 kills instantly as a bunch spawned to take off. We were all rolling with laughter..... well most of us anyway. :)

My amazing ability to landscape with Lancasters is requested time and again by both the Bishop & the Rooks.  Too funny.... :lol

You should call it Lanc-Scaping :aok

I also like ranging an enemy CV's with the 5".  And racking up kills as they take off.

I remember spawning to the runway once w/out paying attention and as I sat there I heard this strange noise, I had just enough time to think to myself "hey that sounds like a bo...." and I was back in the tower. :)

I also remember waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the AH1 days when Mitsu caught a mission on the ground, dropped a couple bombs and ended up with a dozen kills or so and back then each kill was reported to the text buffer in real time as it happen.  So I was flying along and suddenly the whole text buffer was full of Mitsu shot down <playerID#1> in a B-17, Mitsu shot down <playerID#2> in a B-17, etc. etc.

I'm really hoping to catch one of those 43 formation bomber missions upping on my next runway bombing mission. :devil

Sorry but any mission poster known well enough to get that many joiners will know enough to not up a mission with an enemy contact nearby.

Maybe not frowned upon, but the ordnance could have definitely been put to better use.  Sure was fun to watch though!

Carpet bombing runways is an art.  I would love to do a MoM mission of B29s and carpet bomb a runway with 50,000 bombs.  Call it a stress test for the server.  :D

in WB when you did it there was an additional reason to do so.  there was not a way to stop fighters by dropping the revetments but when you bombed a runway if someone went threw the crater they would loose the landing gear and crash.  this made bombing the runway not only fun for the kills (and i got many that way) but also somewhat equivalent  to dropping the fighter revetments/bomber hangers for launch denial.

you could still take off you just had to work at it.

Been bombing runways for a while now and have been relatively successful.

Some of my favorites:

A P-51 is about to land when  -  kaboom!  Haxxor's bomb got him rolling to a stop.  The same P-51 immediately spawns in and  -  kaboom!  my bomb got him.  We were in high B-17s.   :D  *

Carpet bombed the length of the runway, nailing two Brewster's in the middle.  By the time the bomb stream reached the end of the runway, one of the same Brewster guys spawned in time to get dropped for a second time.   :ahand

Got an entire formation of B-24s mid runway from a 500 pound bomb dropped from a B-29.  :lol

edit:  *  the 51 driver got muted after that.  must have been hot under the collar.
